Where do you get outdoors survival training in the Army?

Rangers? Or any other units? The mountain Marines teach mountain climbing, and survival skills in rugged terrain.

What is the Army equivalent?
How do you get to go to any of these schools?


The Army has several different types of survival schools ranging S.E.R.E school, to the Q course in SF and numerous training centers where specific survival is taught for different geographic locations, such as Jungle Warfare, Desert, Swamp, Winter training in Alaska and Wisconsin. Ranger School includes a mountain phase along with the 10th mountain division. Every single potential environment is covered.

You either need the schools as a requirement for your MOS or you attend them as a unit, or portion of your unit. A few can be attended by request on an individual basis like the old pathfinder school used to be. S.E.R.E school used to operate on that basis if there was room, but that is not common any more.

Most units do not attend all, however Airborne, Ranger and SF most definitely do at some point as they are subject to rapid deployment within 18 hours, anywhere on earth.

US Army Survival Guide?

Has anyone bought this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/US-Army-Survival -Manual-Illustrated/dp/9562914488/ref=sr _1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1210018 493&sr=1-1) guide? Is it good? I downloaded a 1992 version but it's 646 pages long, that one is only 288, does it have all the information?

What was the importance of the German army in the formation and short-term survival of the Weimar Republic?

And the republic?

I know it helped from left wing attacks but not from the right wing? In this case it would have detrimental or neutral if anything. Does anyone know any key events which display its importance?
I believe the Nazi's were right wing weren't they? Which meant they had army support...


It did help the Germans keep Silesia- despite three Uprisings which demanded autonomy (and linking with Poland)

there were no right wing attacks. simply "internationalist" left wingers (socialists, communists) who intended to destroy the German state (and therefore were a threat to the existence of the army) and the nationalist socialists (a.k.a. Nazis) who intended to make the state strong (and only wanted to control politics and the economy- about which the army cared much less)
