what is the best survival food brands such as mountain house and MREs?

based on price, taste and how long they last what is the best survival food brands. im looking to stock up on a years supply of food just in case. feel fee to give me any additional details and information please. thanks in advance.

Deciding on survival foods, you do not just have to look at the price, taste and how long they will last, you also have to look at the amount of fuel it will take to reconstitute them. If you are in a survival situation, fuel will be at a premium. Do not focus just on Mountain House dehydrated foods or MREs. Just ordinary canned foods would do well and would also be a great deal cheaper. Canned stews, chilis, cans of tuna and corned beef, Milkman packages and comparable foods would be more practical as they carry calories and nutrition per ounce rather than buying light soups and broths. If you do stock up on cans, do not forget to also stock several can openers. Also, it would be good to include vitamin-mineral tabs and plenty of bottles of water. As for taste, I would not concern myself with that. In a survival situation, you would be concerned with more important issues.

For me, when I backpack, I like the Alpine Air dehydrated products rather than the Mountain House brand because they have considerably less salt and taste fine, but I usually bring in a lot of regular groceries as they taste better and are much cheaper. You can do lots with a box of macaroni and cheese or seasoned rice mix, but that is just me.

What is the best survival food with long shelf life? ?

I want to start stocking up on survival foods (freeze dried, vaccuum packed, stuff like that). I would like to make it home made, I have a dehydrator, or food I can buy at the grocery store. Thanks.

They have found grains hundreds and even thousands of years old that were stored in a dry dark environment that still germinated and grew. The key here is a cool dry place devoid of light. In such a place grains and plant seeds can be kept for decades. Dry beans, rice and corn kept very well some nuts do however some nuts do not.
I keep food grade 30 gallon barrels full of rice, beans, corn, flour, powdered milk and 5 gallon buckets with many other dried foods. All are in sealed containers kept in a root cellar.

Canned good can be kept for a few years but dried foods keep much longer.
Meat can be jerked with a high salt content and vacuumed sealed for several years.
Unopened vinegar, maple syrup, cooking oil, and other such things will last for years in the unopened factory container.

What would be the best survival food for my Obama Pantry?

The military MRE's are not sold on the civilian market. There are civilian knock offs which seem OK. Any suggestions?
.

We have at least a two year supply of canned and dry goods on hand and have been stockpiling for quite some time. There are other alternatives out there, such as:

Freeze-dried foods and military style Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) are convenient types of foods to have on hand for emergencies. These are available from outdoor supply stores, survivalist stores and via the Internet. There are various types of MREs that can be purchased in kits with quantities to feed families for up to a year.

Warehouse stores like Costco sell freeze-dried emergency food kits in plastic buckets with as many as 275 servings for about $85. That would be enough to feed a family of four for three weeks.

Best survival food. What one item would I need to stock pile for long term survival usage that requires no?

special storage conditions and has a long storage life ? It would need to provide ALL of the essentials of nutrition and IT AND WATER ALONE is ALL that I needed ?

Buy some MREs (Meals ready to eat). They have a LONG shelf life and the newer ones aren't too bad

  • Survival Food Storage « From Classics to the New Age

Food prices continue to grow these days. The risk of emergency is always high even though we hope this will never happen at our area. Most grocery stores keep only a three day supply and if an emergency happen they will very soon run out of food products. These reasons make home food storage programs very important. It is recommended that you have at least a 72 hour food and water supply for all your family members. Unfortunately, most people think that food storage is referred to storing grains in huge barrels. As they do not feel like doing this, they just do nothing and hope for the best. A 72 hour food supply is referred to a supply of food which is enough for your family to survive for seventy two hours. Survival food is the type of food with high nutritional value and a long shelf life. Such food product should have an expiration date more than one year. Survival food should also include foods that you like to eat and are ready to eat. It is not smart to store foods that you are not going to ever eat. Survival food should also be portable and light, but this is not a must. The idea of home good storage is not to buy a lot of food and forget about it for several years. Home food storage program is aimed to give you some extra food if you will not be able to get any from outer sources. To make sure your stored food is always fresh and unspoiled you should rotate your food storage regularly. This means your should regularly consume foods from your storage and replace them with new items. This way your food will never get spoiled and you will never have to worry about expiration dates. These dates come into play only if an emergency occurs and you will not be able to replace food items with fresh ones.
