Bulk Survival Food

Answers

Where is the best place to buy wholesale food?

Where can I get the best value on bulk foods? Specifically as a "survival" food. I'm talking a year supply for one adult or more between 500 to 4000$. The way the economy is going, I wouldn't be surprised if the dollar completely collapses ;-). Better safe than sorry as we enter into this depression.

I have a year supply of food..no kidding..the way the economy is doing we are going to end up eating the cat or so.
I bought all my food in a place located in utah www.beprepared.com they have everything you need to food storage, I thing the mormons have a culture of food storage and they have everything set up for this..dry milk, whole grains, already prepared food and water supply...their prices are the best because everything they sale is oriented to last for years in storage. Costco is good, Sams, etc...the thing with them is to check out the due dates of the products .
Just google..food storage...emergy essentials and you will get a good list of resources..emergency essentials base in utah Salt Lake City Utah is the one that I has been using to buy grains..milk..and this products could last for 10-40 years. Hope this help

Good bulk foods, and where to get for cheap?

Hey folks, I'm trying to prepare a bit of a food storage in case of an emergency, (flu or otherwise), and would be interested in what foods I can buy bulk on a budget, that will stay fresh for a long time, preferably 1 yr plus. Also ofcourse high protein etc. are top priorities. I know beans are a good one, and I'm going to try and get 50 lbs of them or so, but does anyone have any other good suggestions? Also if you know of a good place for cheap bulk foods online, or in the seattle area please let me know also. Thanks.

How can I avoid arguments over domestic issues?

I am currently working about 50 hours a week, often more, setting up a cafe. We are in our 1st 12 months, and recession is really hitting this sector so I have little to no income right now.
My boyfriend on the other hand is paid very well for doing about 25 hours a week. So as he earns more it has fallen on him to make rent payments on the house that we share - for some time now. He also buys the bulk of the food we consume, but not all, as I put everything I earn into basic survival items like food & toiletries right now. I'm very grateful to him for this as without it I would have little chance of succeeding with the cafe.
But, on top of me already working double the amount he works, I am expected to take care of cooking said food, cleaning (including cleaning after/feeding his 4 cats!), going to the supermarket, doing laundry and all other domestic tasks. I have explained to him that given the big difference in spare time that we both have, it would help me considerably if he could help out with some domestic stuff. To which he tells me I am "lazy and ungrateful" and he shouldn't have to think about domestic trivialities when he pays the rent. Is he right or is he just using the excuse of happening to be so much better paid than me to emotionally blackmail me into being his housemaid? I feel so stressed from the amount of work that I have to do right now, and uncertainty about the future of the business, that when he starts shouting at me all I can really think of is lashing out at him, smashing my head against a brick wall or just running for the hills (or my best friend's house at least). And I DO clean up and cook and I do all the things that he accuses me of not doing. Its just sometimes not always perfectly because I'm so tired.... and then he shouts & swears at me. I already think he doesn't really love me if he acts this way, but should I just leave him and try and sort out my problems without his added stress or should I stay with him and put up with it because to go would be ingratitude?? Sorry this is such a long post but I'm sure you can understand it's quite complex figuring out the best way to resolve an issue, especially when I don't even know who's right. Please, someone give me some sensible advice!
Marsha - I'm not single, and we're not dating. We have been co-habiting for 3 years. Apparently yahoo does not see fit to acknowledge this category of people exists: that's why I chose marriage & divorce because that's closer to what it feels like. Hope that clears that up for you :)
Also I try to explain calmly and rationally about these things and sometimes he listens and seems to take it in, but two weeks later there will be a repeat performance. And then he'll say that everything I said, when trying to explain, is just me twisting the situation around for my own purposes. So calm discussion does not seem to be the way forward with him. And I've tried arguing back but that just makes it worse. He'd never be physically violent, I'm 6 foot and used to learn kick-boxing so he knows not to, but the fact that I am such a 'strong' woman but still feel no sense of worth is as bad if not worse than any physical threat. Sorry I'm babbling :)
Some really reassuring answers guys, thanks

"To which he tells me I am "lazy and ungrateful" and he shouldn't have to think about domestic trivialities when he pays the rent."

Soo... if he was living by himself, does he think the house would clean itself?

"Its just sometimes not always perfectly because I'm so tired.... and then he shouts & swears at me."

Yeah, this is going too far. My husband NEVER shouts or swears at me about the house not being clean. He never shouts or swears at me for anything.

"should I just leave him and try and sort out my problems without his added stress or should I stay with him and put up with it because to go would be ingratitude??"

Ingratitude... pffffft! Girl, you're way too nice. Nice girls finish last. Nice girls don't get appreciated, they get turned into doormats.

FYI, how a couple splits chores is NOT based on who earns more, but who has time to do it. He has more time. He has a TON of time. He's selfish to make you do it all. Find yourself some female roommates to move in with, and let him pay his rent and worry about cleaning and cooking himself.

Freeze Dried and Dyhydrated Choices for Bulk Survival Food

Dehydrated - Freeze-Dried Versus Bulk Food Storage

By Jeremy Crews

Recently, I posted a series of videos on my blog showing the proper method of packing staple food items such as rice, beans, and wheat for long-term storage. I couldn’t possibly stress enough the importance of using such methods as one would be hard-pressed to find a better way to quickly build up a larder of nutritious, life-sustaining food. When dealing in such bulk items as grains, legumes, etc., a hardy supply of foodstuffs will quickly accumulate.

Of course, these methods do have their drawbacks. The first is that it is time- and labor-intensive as you can see from watching the videos. Another downside is that food packed in such ways is typically not going to be something you can just jump in and start eating. Raw wheat, for instance, must be ground into flour using a countertop mill and then baked into bread. A 5 gallon bucket full of wheat will make a lot of bread to feed you and your family, but that level of work going into preparing it may not be what you’re looking for in an emergency. If your personal preparations tend toward gearing up for a long stretch of bad times, then this method is by-far the best for you due to the many months of food you can quickly and economically accumulate.
