I already have aa cold steel trailmaster, but it's kinda big for small carving jobs like making trap mechanisms.
A fixed blade (so there are no moving parts to break), carbon steel, blade no longer than your palm width, lanyard hole, full tang construction, lower finger guard, single edged, Scandinavian grind.

Is it to do with fearing an all out nuclear war or terrorist attack? Are some of them linked to extreme political groups? I have noticed many also like military-style exercises and wear fake uniforms and facemasks, etc.. Or is it just men showing what little boys they really are at heart? Not that some women don't also enjoy these things but they're markedly rarer :-)
Its called preparation. With the state of this nation, anything could happen. Natural disasters could wreck parts of the country at any minute. I for one, wont be like most of the people suffering during Katrina and waiting for the gov. to save em. Plus its fun and keeps you grounded with the outdoors instead of going from AC to AC and eating whatever they feed you..lol. Knowing how to get food, water, and shelter for your family from the outdoors could save your life. It's like life insurance...better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!
The gun nuts you mention, are doing it also cause its fun! Most are not looking to shoot it out with LE or gov. but just like shooting guns. Kinda why people play painball. Much better than sittin in the house. There are some real nuts out there as well though. Just like within any group. but thankfully they are not common.
Hey everyone, I have searched everywhere and can't seem to find a bushcraft knife that fits my needs. Does anyone know of any good bushcraft knifes that are made with, 1. complete full tang. 2 Stainless steel blade with single bevel (Scandinavian grind). 3 solid handle made out of wood or a high quality rubber type material. 4th a blade length between 4 and 5 in. Thank you very much for any ones help, I just want a reliable survival knife.
Well, it's not a scandi grind (it's a convex grind), but the Fallkniven F1 is often seen as the best bushcraft knife for the money. Actually, other than that, stainless steel isn't that common in bushcraft knives. Most bushcrafters have their knives custom made (not as expensive as you might think), but they almost exclusively use a high carbon tool steel.
You could look for "Puukko" designs and see if you can find any with stainless blades.
Spyderco will be releasing a bushcraft knife later this year, but it's not stainless steel and it comes with a $300 MSRP... many customs of a similar design could be had cheaper than that. The interesting thing though is that they're already planning a 'modern' version of it with VG10 steel and (I think) micarta scales. That should be a very interesting knife; especially if they could halve the MSRP. It would make a very interesting competitor to the F1.
Gerber LMF II
Benchmade 140 Nimravus
Standard USMC Kabar
These are good knives. I carry a Benchmade and a Gerber with me most of the time. Someone else mentioned Gerbers and they are excellent knives, usually at a more affordable price. Check out this knife store I went to... http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/mai n_front.jsp
specifically bushcraft and wilderness survival stuff.
