college survival kit/book?

Hi, im making a college survival kit/book for my older brother for his birthday, he is turning 18 in a few weeks. (i know it sounds corny, but go with it)

so... WHAT does one put in such a book/ kit.
i was thinking like easy recipies, maybe a "how to do laundry" thing, but thats as far as i got.. help?

My brother got one of these for his graduation gift from high school. Here's what was in it: Pens, Mechanical Pencils, Loose leaf paper, 3 hole punch, stapler (and staples), scotch tape, scissors, ruler, calender or appointment book (or both), dictionary/thesaurus, and other office type things. Believe me, you need a lot of random stuff for your professors. I always ran out of pens and paperclips.

Things I would suggest to really make it something other than "woo school"
because it's your brother, boy stuff!
axe body spray or wash, or both. deoderant, a few sticks., boys are smelly. Febreze and that downy wrinkle releaser spray stuff. Boys in college smell, and do not like washing clothes. you know those sample size shampoos and conditioners and all that jazz? those. lots of them. go for something minty or unscented. head and shoulders or pert plus or something to that effect. boys don't like shopping for personal items, if you haven't gotten that already.

basically all those travel size personal hygiene things are great for this gift, mouth wash, shaving creme, a pack of razors (things he wont have extra cash for that are neccessary in college).

Food section:
Anything microwaveable. Easy mac. pop tarts. microwave popcorn. these will be food groups to him after awhile, he will want more of them than you can imagine. plus, he will be sharing with his roommate.

Non-perishable is key. I think my roommate and I lived off of hot cocoa mix for a month. oh, make sure it has marshmallows. boys like that. throw in his favorite candy or boxed juices, things that won't go bad immediately.

(to that end, you may want to give him everything but the food and wait till august for that part)

if you are feeling extra generous, and sneaky, throw in some condoms. I don't know how old you are, but if he's going to college... ya know. Slip them to him on the side, tape them to the inside of a box of popcorn, hide them from your parents. But I bet you'll be the best sister (did i make up that you're a girl, i hope not...)ever if you do it.

hope this helps!

The Little Black Book to College Survival (or pretty close)?

I believe I saw it one day when I was in Barnes and Noble, and I haven't been able to find it since. As said, I'm not entirely sure about the title, but I think it's pretty close. Some things in the book were how to pull an all-nighter and how to tell the gender of your date.

it has a brown cover with a cliche beer guy on it in black ink.

My best friend graduates in a week and i am trying to put together a college survival kit, any ideas?

i think my mom will put in $20 or $30 and i can put in about $20 so the cheaper the stuff going in the more cash i can give her!

I think i am going to put in a laundry tote so make sure all items can fit in that

so what did you find that you needed most in college?

also, i think i am going to get an address book and put all of her current friends numbers and address in it and stuff
and maybe if i can get to some of her closest friends i'll have them put a special note by their address too
is that a good idea?

The address book is a great idea. How about you include some stamps as well? So she can write home to everyone when she gets lonely/bored/feels like it.

Also, include snacks - bags of popcorn, mini bags of chips, candy, gum and mints are good too. Caffeinated gum and mints are always handy for late night studying, also.

DVDs - if she has a favourite TV show, see if you can get your hands on one of the seasons - or her favourite movie if she doesn't already have it.

Gift cards - carrying money can be a drag sometimes so if you know what kind of restaurants/stores are around her campus you can purchase some of these. Get her a $5 gift card to Starbucks, for example, if she loves coffee...or a gift card to a movie rental place nearby.

A sleep mask and ear plugs are good, as her roommate may not always stick to the same sleep schedule as her.

Duct tape can fix everything, so include a roll of that. It comes in so many different colours now, so get her pink or purple or whatever her favourite colour is!

A small reading light (that can be clipped to a book) is always helpful, batteries are good too (especially if her Mp3 player is battery operated), so get her some AA or AAA depending on what electronics you know she uses.

Cute picture frames are always fun, and if you have some put pictures in there for her. If you don't want to buy a frame, get her some prints of photos you have as well as some blu tack - so she can hang them on the walls of the dorms without worrying about pulling off the paint, etc.

If you want, get a little plastic shower bag and include soap, shampoo, conditioner, razors, an extra toothbrush, etc. in there. Things at the campus store (which will have these) are MAJORLY overpriced, so that'll save her some money.

A mini first-aid kit, too. Band-aids, tylenol, midol, ibuprofen, etc.

Try stopping by a dollar store one day and just browsing the aisles. They often have cute little toys and things that you can just throw in for fun or as inside jokes.

Other randoms: deck of cards, scotch tape, stapler+staples, air freshener, extra set of headphones, wall calendar, daily planner, disposable camera (to take pictures of you guys before she leaves!), flashlight, calling cards, blank CDs...

What are some good devotions for college students?

I am a freshman in college and I'm realizing how hard it is to keep your focus on God when there are so many distractions. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good devotional books for college students?

Also, has anyone heard of these? I found them on Amazon and they looked really good but I was just wondering if anyone has read them?
