If the Officer Selection Officer says I'm acceptable for OCS, what training will women do as well as men?

First of all, will I go through Basic Training?

Secondly, are all of these things that I will do as part of OCS, or at any time during my training? Someone said I wouldn't go through Basic Training, only the OCS training. But I don't think they are 100% correct.

Reason I ask is because I'm a little concerned about having to jump over those high walls ( I think they are in the confidence course). And I've got an issue with water I haven't gotten over, yet. I will deal with it if I have to.

Thanks, Tyler. I wanted to rephrase that question to get more details from various people. You've enlightened me in some areas. Basic training isn’t what I’d go through in OCS. I’ll be going through something much tougher. They push you because they want you to succeed; though, they’ve also got a duty to make sure you’re capable of leading the ultimate fighting force. I appreciate your bluntness. Meeting with a recruiter and hopefully an OCO today if one is available in my area.

I already told you, you go through OCS, not basic training. I am 100% correct. Then you go to TBS. Officer training is NOT the same as enlisted grunt training, AT ALL. The mentalities are entirely different, and only with officers are they trying to get you to wash out. EVERYONE makes it through basic (other than medical/failure to adapt)

And yes, you'll have to jump over the high walls and the rest of the confidence course, and yes you'll deal with water just like men. You realize that all Marines are riflemen, and all Marine officers are first and formost capable to lead a platoon of infantry Marines, male OR female officers, and we can't lower our standards for females for "equality", correct?

Virginia Tech Army ROTC - Combat Water Survival Training

This is a video of Virginia Tech Army ROTC cadets conducting the annual Army Combat Water Survival Training.

what is red cross' test for life gaurds?

I'm a marine and i just took some combat survival training in the water and i just wanted something to compare to.

It's actually changed from 500 to 300 for the continuous swim.
The first 100 is front crawl (free style), the second is breaststroke, and the last is either one of the strokes. The swim is not timed.
Then, you have to swim 20 yards approach stroke (front crawl with head out of the water), a surf dive down to get a ten pound brick off the bottom, and finally a 20 yard swim on your back with the brick on your chest. This has to be done under one minute-forty seconds.
I would recommend the whip kick on your back, rather than a flutter kick.

Hope this helps!

Live with my husband while he's in tech school?

Ok so me and my fiance are planning on getting married here soon. he's in 7th week at basic for the air force. he's going to be a boom operator.. it seems like his tech school will have him moving around?

Technical Training:

Enlisted Aircrew Undergraduate Course, Lackland AFB, TX, 2 weeks, 3 days
Combat Survival Training Course, Fairchild AFB, WA, 17 days
Water Survival-Parachuting Course, Pensacola NAS, FL, 4 days
Basic Boom Operator Course, Altus AFB, OK, 14 days
KC-135 Initial Qualification Course (note 1), Altus AFB, OK, 14 weeks, 3 days
KC-10 Initial Qualification Course (note 1), McGuire (NJ) or Travis (CA) AFBs,, 14 weeks, 3 days

would i still be able to move with him? hwo does this all work? i know he'll have to be granted permission to live off base..
if it's all added up it will be a little over 21 weeks.. the problem is it looks like he'll be in three or four different states? but im not sure if that's the right information..
and would he still get the extra money for bah? because we're married?

Hello.

While your fiance is in technical school he will be moving to all those bases and states for training.

He will go there immediately after his basic training is over.

You will not have time to get married.

Once he is stationed at his first permanent base you can get married. Then, he will draw Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) at the rate authorized for that base's cost of living.

Don't think that BAH will pay all of your rental in an apartment. It might pay close to 80 - 90% but he will have to take money out of his pay check to make up the difference. Usually. You should expect to get some kind of job after you get married to help pay for the bills.

Married airman always get BAH. Because he is married and can't live in the dorms/barracks.

There is no way that you can live with him while he is in technical school. Technical school students all must live in the barracks with the rest of the troops.

Stay home and wait for him to graduate and go to his first base. Then, get married.

BAH is never "extra money" or a wind fall profit. He will be spending that and more to live off-base.

In the meantime, write to him and wait until his training is over.

Best wishes,

Larry Smith

during water survival traing in Marine Corps boot camp, there was a demonstration given of a Marine, with full

battle gear on, floating on water! i mean combat boots and all! is this training only unique to the Marine Corps? and one other question for Marines and former Marines, did any of you notice that during third phase of Marine boot camp, even though it is still challenging the drill instructors dont scream at you as much as they have during first and second phase? lol, one more question during the week recruits are assigned to mess duty do the drill instructors have a week off during the training cycle? i dont remember seeing any one of them during this period

No Im sure other branches have water survival in thier criteria. No I never noticed a difference in the D.I's attitude untill the very last week, but I guess that was why we were Honor platoon. We took just about everything and was kind of demoralizing to other platoons, but eh F*ck that. The way we saw it was they just didn't want it bad enough. There was always one D.I. on duty in the duty hut durning mess and maintenance, but I imagine he probably had his feet kicked up on the desk and was reading a magazine during this time.

Does the Air Force have double standards on adultery for men and women?

(I wrote this question with Governor Mark Sanford in mind. It is unbelievable that the cowardly high command of the Air Force let this Airman stay in his job and in his rank after he was AWOL and committed Adultery??? Please read the case about 1st Lt Kelly Flinn an Air Force Academy Graduate and B-52 pilot. Head and shoulders above Mark Sanford. Who committed adultery and was never charged.)

Kelly Flinn, sometimes referred to as Kelly Flynn in media sources, (b. December 23, 1970, St. Louis, Missouri) was the first female B-52 pilot in the United States Air Force. Flinn was discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1997 after being charged with making a false statement, adultery, and disobeying orders.[1] Flinn's trouble with the Air Force received widespread media attention at the time and was discussed in a U.S. Senate hearing on May 22, 1997.[1]

[edit] Early life
As a youth she moved to Marietta, Georgia where she attended Lassiter High School and was named "Miss LHS" in 1989 upon graduation. She decided to become a pilot after attending Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.

[edit] Academy
On June 29, 1989 Flinn was accepted by both the United States Air Force Academy and the Naval Academy, with nominations from Senator Sam Nunn and Congressman George "Buddy" Darden, choosing to enter the Air Force as a member of the Class of 1993.

Considered by her Air Officer Commanding ("AOC") to be one of the top cadets at the academy, Flinn was active in many cadet programs, and was selected for an overseas Operation Air Force program, spending the summer of 1991 at Kunsan Air Base in Korea. She was further selected during her senior year to participate in an international exchange program with L'École de l'Air (the French Air Force Academy). Eight cadets are selected every year for this program, becoming provisional ambassadors to France, attending L'École de l'Air and participating in its programs. Flinn flew the Cap-10 and received French jump wings.

[edit] Pilot training
Flinn entered Undergraduate Pilot Training on January 24, 1994 at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, and later attended water survival training and the Combined Services Support Program at Tyndall Air Force Base near Panama City, Florida. In early 1995, Flinn worked in the Wing Scheduling Office back at Columbus AFB, organizing air show information, as well as coordinating Emergency Procedures Training for NASA.

In April 1995, Flinn began B-52 training at Barksdale Air Force Base, in Louisiana, received the highest possible scores on all evaluations (including flight evaluations), and was titled as a distinguished graduate of her class.

[edit] Post-training
Later that October, Flinn was a delegate to the 1995 Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Service conference at Luke Air Force Base. She spoke to several national military leaders, including the Air Force Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Air Force about Air Force policies concerning women in combat.

[edit] Missions
Arriving at Minot AFB, North Dakota, in October 1995, Flinn was mission-qualified for the B-52H Stratofortress by December, as a co-pilot, participating in various B-52 operations for both conventional and nuclear weapons. 1st Lt Flinn participated in various missions, including Hornet's Nest, Global Guardian, Bulwark Bronze, Statex, Green Flag, NORI, and CORI. Selected to demonstrate B-52H power projection capabilities to the Secretary of the Air Force, 1st Lt Flinn flew on a Global Power long-range airstrike during an international exercise, and participated at air shows at Andrews Air Force Base.

[edit] Charged
1st Lt Flinn faced a court-martial on May 20, 1997 for military charges of adultery with a soccer coach at Minot AFB who was married to a female enlisted subordinate; conduct unbecoming an officer; disobeying a lawful order (in writing, to stay away from the married man) and making a false official statement.[1]

Flinn's case, due to her high visibility in Air Force recruitment advertisements, as well as the number of her accomplishments during her four years of active-duty service, drew national attention, eventually creating a media circus. She was allowed to resign from the Air

From what I can read she lied, got caught, was told to stop and then kept doing it. She is an Officer and was fully aware of the consequences. She falls under the UCMJ so she has to play by their, way more specific, rules. A Governor falls under conventional laws and sadly is not held to the same standards. As a military member, being fully aware of the laws, you gotta ask yourself "are my stripes/bars and everything I have accomplished worth it?" It must have been some really good sex.

  • Life with the Moore boys: Ranger school has begun

It's Sunday afternoon. Ramey left this morning to sign into Ranger school. They are sorting through their bags today, making sure they have the packing list squared away. Tomorrow is the PT test and the CWST (Combat Water Survival test). He zip lines into Victory Pond--an icy body of water located at Fort Benning. That was what he was dreading the most, I think. The first five days are the toughest. They want to weed out those that are not strong of heart, Sometimes though, life works against you. Guys a few weeks ago were running in 12 degree weather for their PT test. It should be a balmy 38 degrees for Ray. haha. The boys seem unaffected by his departure. I too have been somewhat distant to...
