I need to know how to survive for 14 days with nothing but a small survival pack in a desert.
use your survival pack accordingly
www.arizonabushman.com This is an example of a simple desert survival kit.
like other then "the plastic bag covored over a whole and rock in the middle" thing... is there a natural way of getting water in a desert? like when your surviving in the sonoran desert?
The solar still you mention is a very good method. Dig a hole about 2 feet deep and 2 feet in diameter. Put a container in the middle and plastic over the top. Put a stone in the middle of the plastic to create an inverted cone.Water condenses on the plastic and drips into the cup. The problem is you need several to get enough water. You'll need about a gallon a day in summer
In the Sonoran desert there are other possibilities. Barrel cactus are one source. But a good sized one will only get you about a quart of juice.
Waters sources may be hidden underground in other places. You will do well to be observant and look for plants that indicate there is water below. These will be green herbaceous plants. (plants with stems and leaves) Watch for larger warm blooded animals,(jackrabbit, coati, roadrunner) they will know where to get a drink.
Other sources are arroyos canyons and gulches. These may be dry but may have water underground. Look for green plants and possible hollows that might have water.
If you are near a mountain range, head for the base. Look for palms or other green plants and dig there. If you climb up out of the desert climate zone you can find a running stream.
Dew is another source. It must be licked or collected off leaves or grasses.
Of course your best source of water is what you take with you. Preparation is key. Knowing the land and knowing where you will get your next drink is essential. It would be foolhardy to venture into an unfamiliar area or climate, just for sport. Given our current technology there is little reason to find oneself in a survival situation in the desert. Learn to find what you need in safe conditions, before challenging yourself.
All items must fit in your hand luggage, and meet airline restrictions for flying. Try and prioritise long-term survival over short-term rescue.
Um, I guess maybe a cell phone that has minutes, a blow up life raft, a gigantic peanut butter sandwich, bottle of water, and a life jacket.
I have played stranded 1 and 2 for the pc.
Played sims 2 castaway.
Going to get lost in blue for the DS tomorrow.
But none have really tickled my fancy. The closest one has to be stranded 2 I guess.
lost the game is out now, follows closely to he story in the series.
give it a go!
You are on a holiday to Las Vegas. After arriving at Los Angeles International Airport, you boarded a small, 20-seater airplane for the short 2-hour flight to Las Vegas.
It is about 10am in the middle of summer and you 20-seater airplane has just crash landed in the Sonora desert in the southwestern United States. The pilot did not survive the crash when the plane crash landed and burned. However, you and your entire tour group from Singapore survived the crasn and except for some minor bruises, everyone is safe.
Your tour leader recalled that the pilot could not contact anyone on the radio just before the crash. However, the pilot did mention that you were about 150km south-southwest from an old mining camp, which is the nearest place you might seek for help. You heard the pilot said that your plane was approximately 120km off the course that was filed in your VFR (visual flight rules) Flight Plan.
The area around the crash site is quite flat and, except for a few cactus plants, does not have any other trees or greenery. The last weather report you heard on the plane's radio said that the temperature would be around 40 degrees Celsius. This, the pilot said, would mean that the temperature on the ground would be about 45 degrees Celsius.
You all are wearing light summer clothing with sandals or sneakers. Everyone has a handkerchief. All together, your group has US$75 in bills, US$5.80 in coins, a packet of cigarettes and a ballpoint pen. Before the plane caught fire after crashing, your group was able to save the following 14 items:
Flashlight (4-battery type)
Sectional air map of the area
Plastic raincoat (large)
Magnetic compass
First aid kit with bandages
9mm pistol with 15 rounds
Parachute (red & white)
1000 salt tablets
1 litre of water each
Book titled "Edible Animals of the Desert"
A pair of sunglasses each
2 litres of Vodka 100% proof
1 overcoat each
A small mirror
Rank the above 14 items according to what you think is their importance for your survival. Start with number 1 for the "Most Important" item and end with number 14 for the "Least Important" item.

Finding fire in the Desert – Ray Mears Extreme Survival – BBC
Under all these other circumstances you would be allowed to take a knife and matches and usually do. But there are controlled environments like getting on a plane. I was just curious. I like the idea of surviving in the wild, but lets just recognise that if we get lost hiking and have not taken a knife and flint, what is the solution….if there is one.
Well Dakatt, I wish he would show us what you are telling me, because if it is illegal to carry a knife in public and the only time a person would get caught in the WILD is if their plane crashed – and it is illegal to carry or store a knife and Machete on a plane – then flint and other stone is the only stuff we would have. Real survival is knowing this and finding that first. Everyone on here slates me, but they probably believe in the tooth fairy also.
