Ideas for a natural disaster survival kit?

Also, how long does a bottle of water last? Forever?

Check with your local Red Cross. Also water will keep for a decent amount of time if the correct conditions are observed, but not forever. Clean, preferably distilled water in a sealed container with quality preservatives lasting 5yrs is not unreasonable.

I have a project on disaster management-Survival skills. Can anyone provide me with the most unique material?

I do not need general survival skills. Please name the disaster whose survival skills you are providing.
(i can get the info for earthquakes tsunamis etc. I would like info for less known disasters.)

Do you have any survival training and are you prepared for a disaster?

My sister and I were talking about how we would fare if we faced some sort of societal breakdown or world disaster. If the bird flu took over, you had no utilities, running water and modern communication weren't there, what would you do? Do you have a survival plan with your family? Do you have a pre-defined meeting place for loved ones? Would you help others? Where would you go?
She was in the Marines and I was in the Army. We don't have plans but are putting one together along with survival packs. Wierd, probably. But you do never know.

Well, there's only one way to find out. I guess the first thing to do would be to secure water and a generator and start rationing.

If a disaster struck what one item would you need for survival?

If you were able to live through a disaster and found out that aide would not come for several days, what would be the number one survival item you would need? Something that would keep you warm, feed you or give you light...something like this, not an MP3 or your cell phone.

Unfortunately it would have to be my medication. Without it I wouldn't be able to do anything.

What are some aspects of survival in a disaster situation that one may not think of right away?

What are the finer points of surviving in a city if the stuff really hits the fan. Like, Katrina, people were coexisting with corpses...how to deal with that?

dude, here is the straight skinny! have plenty of guns and plenty of ammo.don't worry about corpses, they can't hurt you.the rest is common sense, unless you are a lib, they will wait for daddy gov. to save them.

  • Keeping Your Pets Safe in a Disaster | Survival Kits

In emergency situations, people often forget to plan for their pets. But your pets are in just as much need of extra food rations and emergency gear should something unexpected befall your family or your region. That’s why many pet owners have extra cans of pet food always on the pantry shelf. Not only is it more convenient come pet suppertime, but it’s also good general policy for emergencies.

A lot of pet owners also look into pet first aid kits . These are outfitted with a variety of first aid products specifically designed to tend to your pet should they be seriously or mildly injured in a disaster. After all, even something like a small earthquake can result in injuries to your animal if they should dash under a bookcase that topples or get caught under some other disrupted household item. Be ready to play vet until they can see a certified doctor, and your pet has a greater chance of recovering from all bumps and bruises.
