What is a good survival knife that isn't too heavy for backpacking/snowshoeing?
I advice a Frost Mora, preferably stainless due to the fact of no rust.
but some others are the Cold Steel Recon scout and swedish puukko knives.
but any knife of good quality and full tang(most frost moras don't have full tangs, but their design allows them to be as strong).

Get this. I used to think that Swiss Army knives were for dorks. That is, until I received one as a gift one year as a teenager. I took the thing to Boy Scout camp one summer and enrolled in a merit badge program called "Wilderness Survival". This was back when boys were men and they sorta trusted teenagers to have common sense.
As part of the training I received, I was placed in a remote location in the wildernes (not more than 2 miles from the camp) and told to survive for 2 days on my own. I was allowed to wear as much clothing as I wanted when I went out, but was not allowed to take any sort of pack with me. No rain gear, no change of clothes, no canteen and no method of starting a fire. I was allowed to take a single knife along and was given 1/2 pound of raw ground beef. Let me tell you something. I took my Swiss Army knife along with me and I very quickly changed my mind about how useful they can be! I built a simple shelter out of limbs that I cut with the thing and used the tweezers to pull some splinters out of my fingers.
Sure, you can buy those big heavy Rambo style knives. But a Swiss Army knife (the real ones, made in Switzerland) are what I would call "wilderness surgical tools". They can build you an adequate shelter AND be used for a variety of medical applications when you need urgent care but a hospital can not be reached.

I am looking for a cheap but yet good survival knife. I wish for it to fold and it must be pretty sharp I will use to start fires with magnesium fire starters .
models here would help.
The Marine Kay-Bar is the knife I would choose if I could only have one.
They cost between $50 and $60 bucks.
Which company makes good knife's? for a decent price.
As stated by the other answers, BUCK makes some really good knives for the hunter. Wal-mart has good prices on them and I got my sheath knife for about $30 or so.
I am not a fan of the newer style of survival knife with the "saw blade" but prefer the clean standard cutting edge.

Robert Bayely is known for making excellent custom survival knives that are sought after by collectors. By teaming up with Bear they could market the famous survival hosts name on top of the knife manufacturers reputation.
The Bear Grylls knife was designed according to the following characteristics: First off Bear Grylls knife needed to be strong and durable. Of course the best survival knives are made with full tang blades. His personal preference was for a one piece knife guard, which makes sense when making a survival knife that can withstand great punishment and continue to function. Bear’s knife had to be easily carried without restricting movement and so was designed slim, lightweight, and of reasonable size.
