Regardless of price what is the best fixed blade survival knife for general purpose woodland survival? Kabar, Kershaw, Benchmade, Gerber, Cold Steel, Ontario, Fallkniven, SOG, Busse...etc? What make and model in your opinion? I want a full tang design. Please don't tell me a Rambo knife with compass and a hollow handle for holding fishing line and hooks. lol.
There is an endless debate what a survival knife should be, small utility blade or larger one that can take and dish out lots of punishment.
If you go with second definition, then Busse knives are probably on top of the list. Very tough, pretty much indestructible and unusually high wear resistance and edge holding for those types of knives.
I own (and owned) Busses, Cold Steels, Sogs, Benchmades and bunch of other fixed blades. The toughest are Busses for sure.
As for the Cold Steel tests I am very skeptical about those, because they void the warranty if you try to replicate the tests.
My vote for heavy duty blades goes to Busse or if you are on the budget then Swamp Rat knives(SRKW).

If you want something more exotic the kukris are also quite versatile and very tough use knives.

Those are the knives that you can cut, chop and pry with.
For more utility type knives benchmade Nimravus is pretty good and not too expensive.
Fallkniven A1 is also quite tough knife from decent steel VG-10.
Cold Steel SRK was a good knife in older version of Carbon V steel. new ones are not as good unfortunately. Though, nowhere near to Busse or SRKW in heavy duty use.
All of those knives are full tang design.

Inexpensive Survival Kit in a knife. I modify a 13 Dollar Survival Knife to make a Grab and Go survival kit. Plenty to work with here, I#39;d ...
well i got a knife thats about 6 inches (the blade is 6in and the handle is 5 in i think ) well anyways am i allowed to carry it around if im 15 ??? and its a survival knife thing with the hollow handle to put stuff in it like matches
i forgot to say : it dosent fold , its always straight , but i have a case for it that i can put on my belt ...? so is it illegal ?????
Carry it open on you belt. Do not let it disappear under your shirt or coat. I carried a folding knife for years, for various reasons. I would get one of those, since you can carry that type in your pocket. No switchblade, or gravity knife, but a thumb knife is fast and legal.
or if anything i brought is useless we're going into the mountains the closest town is 50 miles
i brought a sleeping bag to
i brought extra clothes
food and an emergency rashions
theres cougars up there but know one going is 21 so instead of a handgun we're bringing my 357. leveraction
lights with extra batteries and water plus water purifacation tablets
i brought 2 lighters cause i suck with matches and case i lose one
i have my meds and extras i'm not gonna go into what my medical problem is though.
i brought a fold up shuvel cayse there usefull for many reasons
i'm bringing two knives one for me to carry and the other stays in my bag. my carry knife is a 7 1/2 inch K-bar there other is a decent survival knife but because of the hollowed handle i always carry two
sharpening stone for my knife
radio just in case. i could fit a medical kit but my friend is taking his.
anything else.

Military Knife: Survival Knives
Knife , with a long strong blade. Still other survival knives are of a folding design for compact carrying. We will cover some of the designs and features commonly found on survival knives.
Most survival knives have a multi-purpose blade. The blade can usually perform multiple tasks like chopping, cutting, spearing and prying. The handle often has a lanyard hole so the survival knife can be tied to a pole to make a spear.
One of the most common features is a section of saw like teeth on one side of the blade. These teeth are often marketed as being a saw that can be used to cut wood. Due to the design of the teeth and the limited length of most survival knives their usefulness as a saw is limited. These teeth on the survival knives were designed so crews could more easily cut through the relatively thin metal skin on a downed aircraft. These teeth can be used to scrap wood or bark to make tinder to help start a fire. Some survival knives do have actual saw type teeth on the blade. You are still limited in what you can cut by the length of the survival knife...
