Mormons and Long Term Food Storage?

I was a Costco yesterday picking up some food trays for the party i was having for the boxing match and there was a woman demoing survival food. I know many people who have a case of survival rations, I do too, from when I lived up north, encase i ever got snowed in. Yet, what surprised me was the sale of milled oats and dehydrated milk. I tried the milk and asked the woman what brought this on, and another man said it was for the Mormons.

I have heard a lot of nonsense about the Mormons since I moved to Arizona, I was just wondering if it was true that you have to store food and if you are survivalists. Also, I shoot sporting clays, I rented the range out one night for a corporate event, and one of my Mormon co-workers declined to attend, saying he was not a big gun guy. If you are survivalists, whats the point of hoarding if you don't have guns?

Anyways, I have no problem with the Mormons, even as a black guy I have always been treated with respect, I just want to know what the deal is.

Basically, we've been told to be frugal and to store for times of need. Thus, many LDS (Mormons) are ready for financial downturns and job losses, able to divert money normally used for food toward things like house payments and so on.

A lot of "provident living" is explained on (linked from) the main web site for the Church: www.lds.org.

As far as weapons are concerned, that is a matter of personal choice. I'd have probably gone with you just for the experience, if nothing else.

What should Be Packed in a long term survival Go Bag...?

Everything from clothing and hygiene, to tools and food.

I guess this would depend on how much you want to relax. 4 weeks in wilderness i guess you would need buck knife, schrade multitool, and waterproof matches. If you're going to SURVIVE, this is even a little much.

Having enough food in hard economic times?

Is anyone preparing food wise for the hard economic times? Why or why not? During the Great Depression there was a shortage of food and people had to line up in long lines to obtain food. So I think it is wise for everyone to prepare for harsh economic times by storing food items, storing water, buying potted plants, creating their own food garden, planting seeds etc

Below I have a list of articles that can help you with that.

A human is able to survive for a few gays without water and for a few weeks without food. That is the reality. Now think about where the food comes from to your grocery store. Do you understand that this system could be easily interrupted some day? This means your grocery store will become empty in a very short period of time. We are not trying to cause panic and fear.
