Marine Survival School

I don't know anything about it. I don't even know what to ask. So just tell me everything you know about it and how it works and how I might be able to get into it if I was interested.

If you are referring to SERE school, then you should know that SERE of any branch is mostly a classified course. No one who has gone through it can legally talk about those portions as everyone signs a non-disclosure agreement before starting.

EDIT: To wisdevildog. Not all of SERE is classified, but the portion of it that they showed on that TV show was only the wilderness survival part such as how to make shelters, catch and cook animals, etc. The "other portions" of it were not shown and ARE classified.

If you had ever done SERE, you would know. If you ever do, go around telling everyone all your experiences there and let me know how you like Leavenworth.

how many marines have been to it and is required you go? ps if anyone has gone do you really have to kill a live rabbit then ,skin, and gut it? will your fail the course if you dont do it

The Marine Corps has numerous schools that teach about survival. MCMWTC is located in Pickle Meadows Ca. and instructs in Mountain Leaders courses both summer and winter.
JEST is another one that teaches Jungle survival. Another one in Quantico Va. teaches pilots about survival skills. Survival is taught on a daily bases and can be learned from the Guide Book of Marines and taken MCI courses. Survival comes from common sense and being prepared for situations that might come up. To this day I always have a back pack with me when traveling that has enough supplies and gear that will get me through a week.

Depends on their job. Some jobs, like aircrew, might require going thru survival school.

The training requirements for reserves is pretty much the same as active-duty....it wouldn't make sense for the military to have a bunch of people being paid, but can't do their job when they're called to active-duty.

A friend of mine from school suggested a military survival expert for the US Marine Corps, but I'm not sure where to begin. Any help on this particular field or maybe any other ideas for a completely different path?

You could go into business for yourself. People might pay to experience a true "survivor" experience. Army Rangers and Marine Recon guys have to live off the land for 4 days as part of their graduation.
You can work as a Forest Ranger for the US FOrest Service. But you stay alone in a fire-watch tower or you patrol for violations by yourself. Not what you are describing but it is a great career..

Should I lose the chub that I have on me right now which is about 20-30 pounds and then bulk up or should I bulk up now. I bought $150 worth or protein and creatine a year ago that I never used so its ready to go, but Im not sure I have 7 months to get into great shape and Id like to get the ball going faster and maybe get beach body before summer. I plan on joining the marine corps when I graduate which is in a year and a half so ill need to be in TIP TOP Physical condition for that so should i go skinny then buff or just keep adding on the pounds now?

Let me give you a bit of advice: Cardio, cardio, cardio! It's not so much the weight but how fit you are. Firefighters need to be in tip-top shape, granted, but the Marines will KILL YOU if you don't get off your a** NOW. Fit doesn't necessarily mean skinny. You'll have time to get ripped during firefighter training but if you can't keep up, what's the point of having a "beach body"? So, hit the gym, focus on cardio and you'll have a great start to a great life plan!
