I trained in Aviation Survival Equipment while in the Navy. I rigged survival gear for fighter pilots. Their survival rest in my hands, my ability to rig their gear. I am a former Police Officer of 11 years. Of which I was on the department SWAT Team as a scout and entry team. As well, I was a firearms instructor, defensive tactics, master ground defense and taser instructor. I decided to go back into the military in 2008. I am currently in the Air Force National Guard. Trained in Security Forces. Trained for 4 months in everything from weapons to personnel recovery to base security to team leader of a 13 person squad. I have a college degree in Applied Science with a Law Enforcement Technology Major. I moved to the United Kingdom with my family due to my wife's career. I've been unable to gain employment. I receive responses such as, "you are over qualified" or "we don't need someone with your qualifications." I'm very frustrated and very concerned about my retirement. I've been searching for 6 months. Who out there is willing to hire a man with my qualifications? What can I do.
There are many private security companies out there who would love to have you on their payroll. Also, too bad you're not in the U.S. The FBI, CIA or the Secret Service would in all probability hire you in a heartbeat. Another well paying possibility is becoming a SoF.
Please read everything including the links before answering. Would appreciate detailed answers, not Canada bashing answers. Any military men who have experiences working with Canadian soldiers, would love to hear your answers.
It seems most Americans seem to think that Canada depends on the US for their very survival.
It is widely known joke that Canada will not be able to defend herself even against a third world nation.
There is this article in the Time Magazine, here is the link:
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/articl ...
There is this quote ‘Its armed forces--once among the finest in the world--are now a bit of a joke, with equipment that keeps breaking down’. Now I will admit, US media can be fond of Canada bashing and putting down Canadians and Canada. But Time Magazine is known for being rather fair in their reporting. Canadians, how do you feel to have something like this written in the Time Magazine, a Magazine being read widely worldwide.
Even the BBC has called the Canadian military modest.
Ask any American about Canada’s military, and the usual response will be does Canada has a military, or there will be the usual jokes about how pathetic it is and because it is so useless there is no need for a Canadian army.
A Reuters article once asked what happened to you Canada, in reference to Canada’s military incapability and abysmal state.
Even your own Prime Minister, Harper has said that he will be rebuilding Canada’s military. What does that mean, that he thinks Canada’s military, they way it is now will not be able defend Canada at all against Russian, Chinese or American militaries.
One of your previous Prime Ministers, Martin offered to send 50 troops to Iraq, but President Bush said he wasn't expecting half the Canadian army!"
Obviously that is Bush being rude and insulting Canadians.
How was this allowed to happen, is it because Canadians do expect America and American soldiers to protect them in times of a military crisis.
Are American soldiers your protection, if yes, Why.
So is this true, Is Canada’s military as pathetic and a joke as it is widely known.
OR just an American stereotype.
I am not Canadian, personally I just always assumed Canada had a capable and strong military just because of it’s good economy and being a first world nation and it’s contribution militarily to troubled regions around the world.
But as I am doing research for a paper, I have not read any articles on Canada’s military might. Looked at Yahoo Answers, and I get the typical jokes on Canada’s military even Canadians who don’t think their military is as good as it should be or that they expect Britain to come and defend them.

I am tired of this stupid question which comes up regularly. First, Canada is 30 million people. Obviously their military forces are not going to be as extensive as those of larger nations. Second, if they are such a joke, why are they in Afghanistan and Iraq at all, getting killed and injured, if not to HELP OUT the Americans, who have so far failed to find bin Laden and have left Iraq in a shambles? Canadian forces were previously regarded as a peacekeeping force sent to places like Somalia and Bosnia, where they also faced death and injury, for the benefit of people who had no connection to Canada at all.
