I got off the trail in the national forest and had to spend the night with nothing but a pair of shorts and tee shirt. So, now I'm looking for a good GPS that will retrace my steps.
I also want a mini survival kit to fit in a fanny pack. I could have used matches, something to cut tree limbs, space blanket, compass, flashlight and a GPS. Should I just purchase these separately or is there a good website that sells this in a small pack.
if you want a gps get one by garmin however you should only need the most basic in the range as for the surival kit try this although some of it is a bit OTT

This is my first video of this nature. Please excuse the shaky camera and my loss for words at times. This is a kit that I have worked on for a ...
For a scooter!!!
Any ideas???
I've been broke down way out in the middle of nowhere 20 miles from any town. Just a cell phone to call a friend, maybe keep a pack of beef jerkey around.
How mini?
For a single item: a good fixed blade knife.
Second item: a knife sharpening tool.
Third: method of producing fire. Some prefer waterproof matches or stick matches in a water proof container. I always preferred a "flint and magnesium block" which when used with the knife above will produce more flames even in the wettest conditions.
Water purification tablets.
Salt or bullion cubes.
The other items depend upon the location you travel and your personal abilities. In no particular order:
Safety pins (assorted sizes including Diaper pins)
Kevlar line (SpiderWire or other fishing line) best to have one light weight (5 lb) and one heavy (50 lb or greater)
Several sizes of fish hooks
Gauze bandages (and Band-Aids)
Precision forceps or tweezers
Pain killers (Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen)
Space blanket (aluminized Mylar)
Aluminum foil (also be used to make a signal mirror)
Sewing kit (several size needles and threads)
Clean white cotton handkerchiefs
Some find use for a compass, whistle, duct tape, multifunction tools including "Swiss Army knives" and bulk chocolate blocks.
If you have the room or weight limit high enough include an extra pair of heavy socks, an Ace (elastic) bandage, several feet of leather strip, allergy medication (Sinus relief) and some iodine.
A map of the area entered is always a plus.
I just purchased a mini survival kit but it does not have a knife any suggestions on where i should get one or what type?
Thanks :D
I would go with a nice, small SOG Knife. They are some of the best in the industry and will stand up to some serious abuse. I really like the Vulcan but if you need a little smaller you can get the mini-vulcan. It is a great manual folder knife. I am including a link to the mini-vulcan from where I got my Vulcan. Great prices and they had free shipping too.
I'm building a mini surivial kit and I want everything to fit inside an altoids tin. Need ideas on what to put in it.
single edged razor blade with edge protector, small copper wire wound in a coil for snares and repairs, flint and steel for fire, some cotton balls for tender (smeared in vaseline and wrapped in saran wrap),mini compass, fish hooks, split shot and fish line, packet of dried soup mix, a couple of tea bags, if you still have a little room, add a couple of aspirin tablets. and that is about all you need for a small kit. save the larger and more complex stuff for a bigger kit in your pack.
