Also, how long does a bottle of water last? Forever?
Check with your local Red Cross. Also water will keep for a decent amount of time if the correct conditions are observed, but not forever. Clean, preferably distilled water in a sealed container with quality preservatives lasting 5yrs is not unreasonable.

To make it through the best you can and help prepare in the event of the next time. work together, help eachother. we got to were we are today we can do it again. earth quake duck and cover. volcano ware mask and run like a headless chicken. Striving through life talk and help make a change for the better. We have technology we are being held from using due to greed. we need to fight greed and help end the suffering of thousands. We can replace by inventing machines but we should not continue to charge, for that depletes rather then nourish. we need time to be with our families and study and invent more ways to live freely, so we can enjoy the time that we have not struggle to survive. And when we need to escape in a pod of the earth we are able to, when needed. we will see when we get there. but we are more important alive then dead so help as many as you can. For when one owns stuff and sets the price your a slave struggling to survive, When who ever you wish to believe created what we have to work with, we should be able to make what ever we want to make by communicating and doing it.
A recent program on the History channel describes seven prophesies made by various religious and nonreligious persons. Many of them describe natural disasters which may strike us here on earth.
Large meteors which will indeed hit earth,
a supernova which delivers gamma rays towards earth blocking out the sun,
giant calderas (like Yellowstone national park) erupting sending us into a new ice age.
Despite these predictions, why havent people become more interested in moving towards places which may shelter them from harm (ie mountanous areas). Survival is a dangerous thing for a large metropolis.
Personally, I would want my family to survive any natural/man made disaster. But i live in a large metropolis, it would be unheard of to ask my wife to move for these reasons. But, if not prepared, you will surely die in this situation.
How long will your food supply last?...
What will you do to get food to feed your family? Steal?..Kill?
What steps have you taken to prepare for 1-2 years survival?
What survival equipment do you have? (tents? sleeping bags? clothing for cold climates?)
I am interested to see what all of you have done to prepare for a natural/manmade disaster. And how long you would expect to live on what food you have in your pantry...
(Refrigerated/frozen foods will not count)...
Well, the odds of one of those disasters happening are less than one in a trillion. They probably will happen someday, because if you have 1.5 jabillion years, even if theres a tiny probability, it will happen sometime in all those years. Personally, I'm not stocking up for any natural disaster. What I'm more worried about are Zombies.
I ask because I've been really concerned about the potential dangers of global warming.
Did you know that Twinkies started out as survival food? In WW1 or WW2 people couldn't make a lot of deserts and didn't have a lot of fruit because of the war effort.
The only thing they had was pastries and cream. So they combined a pastry and added the only fruit in a cream that they could get @ that time with it, bananas. It was a huge hit because it was so cheap and good. It became so popular that even after the war, people loved it and wanted to stay with the old banana cream! So yeah! I think it 's a great survival food!
What metal are survival kits (for natural disasters ect) generally of?
Thanks!
usually steel. sometimes tin.
in damp environments or places with high salt content manufacturers prefer plastic/polymer.
Buy Cheap
Survival Blog » Simple Food and Water Storage For a Snowstorm ...
“It doesn’t take a large catastrophic disaster for anyone of us to find ourselves in a situation where we are stuck in our home, maybe for a period of days, without food or water available to us other than what we have there.” It’s a wise warning from the American Red Cross . This video from the CDC is short, sweet and informative:
“Stockpile things you like and normally buy, just buy a little more of them. Stockpile foods that are non-perishable and don’t require refrigeration or cooking.” It’s really common sense. Store a little extra food and water in a pantry, garage or extra closet.
