... sea survival ...
I cannot agree with the theory, the survival of the fittest Think about 300 eggs of sea turtle hatched, of course the fittest (most strong, most fast to grow) turtle will try to reach the shore. hundreds of others will follow it. Unfortunately, the fastest baby turtle has better chance to be seen by the preditors. The slowest turtle has good chance of survival after other hundreds turtles are eaten, and preditors are too full to keep eating turtles.
Yet evolution must be happening, based on fossile evidences and everything. What would be the major force, making the evolution to happen? Wouldn't God has good will to evolve all the life to live in better way naturally?
That's my thought, I'm sorry in advance if my question distressed you at any degree, but I would still appreciate your thoughts and opinion.
Have a wonderful day!
Oh, Chris, thank you so much for your sincere answer. I majored Biology, in University of Washington. I noticed all the scientists are talking about chances, but nobody (that I knew 10 years ago) didn't try to calculate chances of fittest - luck beyond the "survivor of the fittest theory. Also, why the science have to be different area with spirituality? Wasn't Einshtein one of the most spiritual person? I choose Biology major since I was so amazed by God's work when I first learned about cell, the smallest, unseen existence is so perfectly ochestrated by some force... I still believe that force is God...
Well, let me know what you think!!
Survival of fittest is a false theory.
As for my opinion.
Survival of the smartest is the new mantra.
Those who live smart with the nature and adopt its rules live and evolve.
There is no doubt that people are the intellectually dominant without being cinical. Does this fact result in their physical, numerical dominance among species of the same 'callibur', i.e. size and weight. We are about 3 x10^9 in number (3 bln)
Can you give an estimate of the population number of the other 'similar' animals or plants in the wild (not the domesticate ones that do not have the survival issue to face)
Of course some living organisms like bacteria and germs easily outnumber us, but I am not interested in them. Can you give an estimate of such prominant survivors like rats, sea gals, sparrows etc. (In astronomy for example we can estimate, order of magniture only, number of stars in our Milky Way, number of galaxies in the Universe, etc. -- I am looking for a similar answers)
well, 3=6 in this line of accuracy I am talking about as they are of same order of magnitude; my data may be outdated, but the question is eternal (!!) and Jerremy has very well caught its spirit and "the Brain" gave us nice details.
also, this kind of defence about animal intelligence reminds me about the another saying that "dogs are better than people" Well, I would say... they are different. Similarly, Did dolphins create the General Relativity or did any animal species go to the Moon or maybe these achievments are NOT sign of intelligence?
Well, insects (such as beetles, ants, flies, etc.) are another class of organisms which outnumber us here on our planet. They are actually far superior to human beings in terms of physical strength and order and discipline. If you have ever noticed, ants always walk in a straight line and birds always fly in a fixed formation.
In terms of number, there are currently more than one million different species of insects. But it is estimated that there must about a total of 10 million. The majority have not been discovered yet. Insects live EVERYWHERE at least on land. Very few actually live in water but insects have even been found in antarctic. They live beneath your feet in soil. They live above your head in air and also around you in the bodies of plants and animals around you.
The incredible size of individual species of insects is only dwarfed by the incredible numbers they sometimes occur in. In 1943 Profeesor Salt found that an acre of British pastureland near Cambridge supported over 1,000,000,000 Arthropods of which nearly 400,000,000 were Insects and 666,000,000 were Mites the remaining 38,000,000 were Myriapods (Centipedes and Millipedes).
Some Scientist have recorded the otherwise inconspicuous Springtails at densities as high 100,000,000 per square metre in the ordinary farm soil of Iowa U.S.A.
In Africa swarms of Orthoptera ( Desert Locusts Schistocerca gregaria) may contain as many as 28,000,000,000 individuals. Although each Locust only weighs about 2.5grams when they are all added up together this comes to 70,000 tons of locust.
Take those numbers and multiply by the land surface area of Earth (which is roughly 150,000,000 km^2). That's a pretty big number, a lot bigger than 9 billion.
it is amazing how arrogant, selfish, and self centered the human race is. We think that we are by far the best but as it turns out that there are other living beings on our planet who are superior to us in every sense, even intelligence (such as dolphins).
hiya im doing my english course work and i cant do it! its on saving private ryan but my sentences don't fit together =( any help?
anticipation grew. Ghostly clouds accumulated, overshadowing those whose fate has already been decided. Murmuring thunder intimidated the small soldiers as a child would a small animal. acidic rain stung the sore, dry, neglected skin on the faces that feared what lay ahead on their perilous journey.
The darkened black coffins creaked towards the soon to be blood stained sands. blunted bullet fire ambushed the small defenceless warriors freeing their traumatised souls. The cold sea transformed into a deathly red as bodies violently threw themselves overboard in a desperate attempt for survival.
Compelled by fear but at the same time obliged by patriotism, confused and alone the soldiers one by one fell amongst others within the hell hole of the sea, searching for comfort. Under the sea was peace, silence, tranquillity. This was worlds away from the atmosphere which was merely inches above the water.
There is too many complex sentences and i need some short ones. does any one have any good ideas, ways to improve or sentences to add within or afterwards (as its not finished).
thank youu
I actually think this is really good and you don't need to change anything =]
I' trying to define and summarise my beliefs, thoughts, outlook on life and how I wish to live my life. If anyone happens to stumble across this thread and knows a little or alot about what im talking about, would you be so kind as to help me figure out myself!!
Ok so, I feel I am a socialist, a communist libertarian who believes:
- There should be no money, there should be no restraints to our lives, there should be no superiors telling us what we can or can't do because we are poor.
- There should be no skyscrapers, no huge buildings. They ruin the landscape, *insert anti-capitalism babble here*
- I want to live in a rural area when I move out from uni/home. Possibly near a beach- so I will feel closer to nature- closer to the outside world. The sea is so free, and I love beaches: I want to be free from modern society that restraints me so.
- Its so hard to explain everything!! so bear with me, It'll all come out eventually xD don't give up on me yet :D
- I am bisexual, I feel that freedom of sexuality should be as free as life itself, so therefore.. I must be free from.. well, *babble*. I admie the ancient greek's outlook on sexuality, they adorned tableware and artwork with images of hetro and homo sexuality. I envy them!!
- I don't like money, it depresses and stresses me. Everything should be free. Ancient tribes, and undiscovered tribes today hidden away in Africa or anywhere work like clockwork, because there is an un-selfish understanding of share and share alike.
- Those tribes have survival skills passed down from generations. I want to learn these skills, so not to loose them in the modern society world. I want to survive!! My opinion on the meaning of life is to SURVIVE, and not to work for money to make a living. I watch Ray Mears when I can, wildlife documentaries to LEARN about our natural world!! *Sorry about caps/ !!'s, I get very excited about nature blah blah :D*
- I want to learn more, meet like minded people, explore my sexuality!! (not nessaceraly at the same time xD as I do have a boyfriend... But thats another matter xD)
- I'm planning to go to Africa to volunteer for a conservation programme for lions :) Love the things... and tigers, all big cats.. well, all animals. Maybe big cats in particular because of our ancestors roots to Africa... Mmmm wildlife ^^
- I believe in finding a life partner. Have kids and continue, teach the way to survive. (not your soul mate xD, as in there is someone set in the stars.. blahblah... im not supersitious. that is bollocks :D)
- OH!! I love camping!! Being out in a huge forest or next to a beach.. bliss!! Of course I'd love to do it o'natural, with twig bivvies and cooking fish or a caught chicken in an underground wood oven, but however i lack the skills to do this, so untill i do learn, its campfires with huge pots of pasta! And lightweight fabric tents!! but i do love my sleeping bag... It'll do for now... :D
I think I've explained everything...
Politics - There should be none!! Apart from the mutual agreements between a tribe!.
Life- To survive, we should live to survive not work
Love- to explore, and also to find a life partner to have kids with to continue the survival of man kind ^^
Rural vs urban- Rural all the way!! I'd rather sleep in a bivvy all my life than live in a sky scraper!!
Phew xD *breathes* Thanks for reading, Those left wwho didn't give up half way thanks again!! Would be awesome if you had any thoughts if theres any word or anything that defines this!!
Thanks :)
Edit: I'm an atheist :D
2nd edit xD: Ok, point taken about the 'labelling' :) An alternate question: How do I break out of my routines? Any guidance on how to start living the way I'd like to? I'm olnly 18! So I have no idea :D I'm hoping to be a freelance ceramicist so I'll have thre freedom I want *sigh* Ah well xD
I think what you may be interested in is covered in the broad term of "Homesteading". This movement is not new and not for everyone. It takes everyone and everything 'out of your business' unless you want it there. You remove yourself from society basically and only interact with others how and when you wish. Money is a movable feast, and if you network enough, I am sure you can find like individuals who believe in the barter system. What you do in your bedroom is your own business, and there are persons in all walks of life involved in the homesteading movement. This is a very meaningful way of life, I was raised on a farm and my parents embraced some of the basic homesteading practices. I think you will enjoy it.
I have enclosed a link.
