If you're in the woods and a helicopter with heat seeking equipment flies over and you wrap yourself in a solar/survival blanket, can the chopper see your heat signature?
i dont know..but thats a good question
When we look at mayan calendar 2012. it some times scares me for a moment, but we need to look what survival options we have. Solar fares to a greater extent can wipe off larger part of life on the planet if our planet is not shielded. Is there a way we can protect Earths atmosphere from these flares, do we have any technology or anything which can prevent this, rather than watching this happen...
We have a maximum of solar flares every eleven years. They sometimes interfere with communications, but they haven't presented any danger to human life. There is no reason to believe that the next one will present any more danger than those in the past.
"Can Our Sun Produce a Killer Flare?
The short answer to this is "no".
The longer answer is a little more involved. Whilst a solar flare from out Sun, aimed directly at us, could cause secondary problems such as satellite damage and injury to unprotected astronauts and blackouts, the flare itself is not powerful enough to destroy Earth, certainly not in 2012. I dare say, in the far future when the Sun begins to run out of fuel and swell into a red giant, it might be a bad era for life on Earth, but we have a few billion years to wait for that to happen. There could even be the possibility of several X-class flares being launched and by pure bad luck we may get hit by a series of CMEs and X-ray bursts, but none will be powerful to overcome our magnetosphere, ionosphere and thick atmosphere below."

is it a balance and are photolysis and carbon fixation of equal importance, being one in dependence of light and the other temperature in the process of making energy for the plant (photosynthesis)?
A plant will grow in a warm temperature but the leaves will not take to it's natural colour so it's more important for plants to have solar energy.

Eventually the sun will get old, and when it does it will turn into a red giant star. When that happens, it will grow large enough to wipe out the earth and make mars uninhabitable as well. So, at that point, we would need to travel to another solar system.
Luckily, none of that will be happening in the next billion of so years, so there isn't any rush to get ourselves out of the solar system.
Seems no one is seriously interested in space travel (unless it's to make another country you really don't like look inferior or for weapons purposes). And whether or not you believe in global warming we are destroying the environment and at some point in the next 100 years it looks like will kill us off. Then there's over population, disease, war, and most important, everyone is focused on little things, petty things. People want to cut funding towards space exploration, not increase it. They'd prefer to spend the money that should be going towards saving our very species on blowing each other up. Half the world's scientists are employed by the military's of their countries.
Do you really see any long term hope for mankind?
The more relevant question is, will we go extinct within the next 200 years because we're too reckless and irresponsible to care about future generations? If we assume a hypothetical scenario in which we do not extinguish all life on the planet then we've got something in the neighborhood of hundreds of millions if not billions of years to prepare for solar instability. I personally think that is more than enough time to develop terra-forming abilities including altering planetary orbits, so yeah, I think humanity can survive in this solar system for at least another ten billion years and by then, we might be capable of simply designing and building specification quality host stars and planets, but all this futuristic sophistication does still rely of course on whether we can first figure out how to stop striking ourselves in the face with a hammer.

Solar Powered Survival Gear « Survive the Apocalypse
Until recently, I hadn’t really thought of electronic survival tools, but the emergence of solar power is changing the game. Portable solar panels are available that can run most any tool or appliance. Now most are flimsy and don’t pack much of a punch, but this portable solar charger from Solar Eclipse is pretty rugged.
Even with this new technology, I still wouldn’t rely on electronic tools. They are bulky, susceptible to moisture damage, and hard to repair. Furthermore, I would never want to rely on something like the sun for survival.
A lot of folks will spring for this gear, and the apocalypse may be a lot different than we imagine it. We may be walking through the woods and find a guy taking a shower from his solar panel gravity shower , and then climbing inside his solar powered heated tent to listen to the Black Eyed Peas on his solar-powered Ipod, while tweeting all about it.
