College Survival Checklist?

I was wondering if anyone has any input about what is a lifesaver at college...suggestions for supplies or tips in general would be awesome!

A USB/thumb drive; don't leave home without it.

Laptop or Net book, if you can afford it. Lighter is better!

Antivirus program on your computer; most colleges require you to have it before you can access their network (although my university doesn't make Apple users have it).

Nail clippers, simply because I don't go anywhere without them, lol!

Mini stapler: I've been the most popular person in several classes and made many friends just by being able to offer them a stapler at the last minute, seriously!

Post Its: I use them all the time for marking pages in books and reminding myself of stuff.

Quarters: You'll want them for vending machines.

A good, strong book bag that's not too heavy. Make sure the straps are well-sewn, because college books are heavy.

Tips:

Don't try to read your books before classes start; you won't understand half of it, and won't need to read the other half.

Don't use your laptop the first day of class; a few teachers hate them, so ask first.

Show up the first day with just paper, pens, and your books. Nothing fancy.

Always sign up for more classes than you plan to take, so that you can drop one if you don't like it. I've dropped a class every semester so far.

Voice recorders, to tape lectures, are rarely effective. Who wants to listen to it again later on?

Don't sit to the far left or right of the teacher. Try to sit in the middle, where they can see you. This way, they'll see you if you raise your hand, and being visible makes an impression on them.

When emailing a teacher, use their title (Professor, Doctor, etc), and sign it "Regards, Name". Don't use text-speak, and keep it formal.

Make friends with someone in the class, even if it's just to chat a bit with your neighbor. Then offer to exchange emails/phone numbers. This way, if you miss a class, or have a question about an assignment, you have someone to ask, and so do they.

And above all, hang in there! It might be nerve-wracking and overwhelming at first, but you worked hard to get there, and you deserve to be there!

Deciding to have a baby checklist?

Following my previous question 'We want a baby but is that reason enough to have one'.

I've done so much reading on forums and websites and books and spoken to friends of mine who are mothers and yet I cannot find the one thing I think I need... some kind of checklist of things to consider with my partner before we TTC. I know not everyone's circumstances are the same but as a general decision making tool I think a checklist would help to make things clearer for us.

Please share your opinions with whats on the list already and FEEL FREE TO GIVE SUGGESTIONS OF THIGNS TO ADD!!!

1- Is the 'want' really to raise a 'child' together and not just to have a 'baby' (cos a baby is not just for Christmas)

2- How long do I stay at home before returning to study and part time work

3- pre-natal and post-natal devision of house hold chores; what happens if I have debilitating morning sickness or other pregnancy related medical issues that may require bed rest

4- Finances; are we eligible for Government assistance (Australia) and survival on a single income both practically and emotionally

5- Division of parenting responsibilities; getting up in the night, changing dirty nappies, 'me time', understanding that parenting is ALSO a full time job

6- Pro's and Con's list; how will having a baby affect live as we know it? What will each parent have to sacrifice/appreciating eachothers sacrifices

7- Parenting Philosophy: what kind of parents do we want to be? Questions relating to; breastfeeding, circumcision, discipline, immunisation, presenting an 'united front' and not having a war of opinions.

....agree with all of that? Suggestions? Are we over thinking it?
I know nothing will go to perfect plan but we're trying to make an informed decision, please help!!!

RE: 'day': I am 22, my partner is 25 and earns a significant income. In Australia we get a 'Baby Bonus' and tax reductions to help us raise happy healthy children. I am currently a university student full time and work 25hrs a week on top of that. I am far from irresponsible. Religion is something my future children can decide for themselves as my partner and I do not practice any specific religion.
Bringing a new person into the world is a massive deicision, why shouldn't it require deep thought and consideration?

I think you are WAY over thinking this. If you and your husband are in loving and stable relationship and both of you want to start a family you shouldn't have to make a extensive list like that.
