oh yeah first aid kit- duh?
I did two survival weekends when I was in High School. One of the most helpful things I found was safety pins. You can use them to pin clothing together, as a zipper pull, a fishing hook (bend the sharp end to form a hook and then cut off the clasp), use several to make a light weight chain, poke holes in things, etc.
Parachute cord, some times called 550 cord, is helpful too. You can use it to make shelters (string between two trees and then throw plastic over it), as a clothes line, strip the outter casing and use the inner strings for fishing line, lash poles together, make boot laces, etc.
A pen or pencil and a note pad are good.
A small sewing kit is great for mending small holes in clothing or for emergency sutures.
A pair of leather work gloves. The obvious use is for work, but they can also be used as pot holders to remove hot pots and pans from the fire.
Just passed my survival course and need guidance on how to get started offshore. Work on the docks at the moment and fancy a new career...... All Help Will be Greatful!!!!!!!!!
maybe as a roustabout - general work, it'll get you started anyway!

Or would that be considered cheating?
Would it be a greater advantage to learn survival skills or psychological manipulation?
On that show, it would probably be psychological manipulation. I hate those reality TV programs because often those people on there are fake. Those with the least amount of integrity succeed. I hate them because they condone backstabbing and whatnot in our society.
It has to be a fixed blade knife it's a school thing it lasts 5 months and I'll be needing something that keeps it's edge and performs well under some pretty stressful use.
Main use will be primarily survival oriented. Blade length 3-6, preferably leaning towards the 3.
willing to spend $30-80 Canadian.
Go nuts!
Have a look at Kershaw Knives. They make good quality blades for just about anything you need. I have a Deer Hunter, but it's a pretty expensive one. Look at the Antelope Hunter II or Bear Hunter ($40-45 US). There are many more.

none spring to mind. the job market is tough as hell these days. companies are trying to get as much out out you for as little as they put in. all you can do is sell your strengths a japanese company might see the survival course as a bonus but i sure as hell wouldnt start an hour early to do company appreciation exercises off the clock. if your a good out doorsman you could try the national trust or the national parks service

Restless Virgins: Love, Sex, and Survival in Prep School ...
(this is an edited version to another posting)
I wouldn’t be so close minded about what girls (and boys) are doing nowadays. Maybe your kids are great, but I seriously doubt that none of their thoughts are about sex, boys and who they want to date. Growing up with girls and having my own has given me an inside view of what goes on in the teenage mind (whether I want to hear it or not!) The things I hear make me cringe to even think that my youngest daughter could consider sex by 10 or 11. Even girls growing up in a strict catholic school have these same urges and thoughts – it’s human nature. We as parents shouldn’t be naive about what happens now. Statistics show an awfully large incline in teen pregnancies, STDs and “hooking up” stories. I just hope others out there can keep and “open mind” about this and not look the other way, as to say, this couldn’t happen to me.
