Mormons and Long Term Food Storage?

I was a Costco yesterday picking up some food trays for the party i was having for the boxing match and there was a woman demoing survival food. I know many people who have a case of survival rations, I do too, from when I lived up north, encase i ever got snowed in. Yet, what surprised me was the sale of milled oats and dehydrated milk. I tried the milk and asked the woman what brought this on, and another man said it was for the Mormons.

I have heard a lot of nonsense about the Mormons since I moved to Arizona, I was just wondering if it was true that you have to store food and if you are survivalists. Also, I shoot sporting clays, I rented the range out one night for a corporate event, and one of my Mormon co-workers declined to attend, saying he was not a big gun guy. If you are survivalists, whats the point of hoarding if you don't have guns?

Anyways, I have no problem with the Mormons, even as a black guy I have always been treated with respect, I just want to know what the deal is.

Basically, we've been told to be frugal and to store for times of need. Thus, many LDS (Mormons) are ready for financial downturns and job losses, able to divert money normally used for food toward things like house payments and so on.

A lot of "provident living" is explained on (linked from) the main web site for the Church: www.lds.org.

As far as weapons are concerned, that is a matter of personal choice. I'd have probably gone with you just for the experience, if nothing else.

Buy some MREs (Meals ready to eat). They have a LONG shelf life and the newer ones aren't too bad

Has anyone got a survival plan in place in case there is a financial crash?

I am interested in putting together food storage and everything I need to survive an emergency. It's better to be ready now. Most importantly I want to find a good location to get my family to and home is not it. I have a small travel trailer. Any suggestions from outdoors men, campers, survivalists?

  • The Importance Of Emergency Food Storage | All About Foods, Drinks ...

When it comes to emergency food storage you need to make sure everything is perfect. That is why it could be a good idea to prepare everything with your own hands. This way you will need to buy the food and special equipment like dehydrator or freeze dryer. This will cost you quite a fortune and you will need to spend a lot of time of preparing your emergency food. But you should enjoy this job as it allows you to protect your loved ones. This could be a great option to get ready to an emergency. However not so many people are ready to go through all these stages.
