When we were young, my cousin had a hollow aluminum hiking staff. The sections screwed together, concealing a "survival kit" inside. It was waterproof, and blue (but I think they came in other colors). Anyone remember these, and what they were called? I can't seem to find them using Google. Thanks!
No, the one at Cabela's (and other outlets) isn't the same--this one was almost like sections of 1" tubing that screwed together to make the staff. It had an astronaut blanket, emergency tent, all kinds of stuff... Seems like it had smaller waterproof plastic tubes inside, to keep everything in.
you can Google "survival staff" and get some info but most staffs are $200 and even higher for a Crawford

I have spent thousands of dollars to make a comfortable and attractive lunch room for my employees. But the costs of upkeep and repair seems to make the whole thing somewhat discouraging. What with the rats thrown into the microwave by the sales staff (open betting on their survival time too) and the destruction of the table-tops due to dancing by the women from the AP Department as a contest with the guys from Shipping Department, I just wonder if I should just let them eat in the parking lot.
You need to call a meeting with all employees and let them know that the party is over. Set up a schedule per week for each department to be responsible for keeping the lunchroom clean. Let them know that a nice lunchroom is not mandatory by law. All you have to provide is a place for them to sit down doing their breaks and lunch time. Some companies do not have a lunchroom. Off of the restrooms they have a lounge area with one couch and several chairs.
I would suggest that you check with local business on your block, and go and see what they provide for their employees.
I worked for a large company one time and they had a full stock kitchen with microwave items, soups, cereals, juice, etc. because there was not these places close by to get food. Week by week someone decided to supply their home with groceries from work. The inventory keep going away faster, and faster. The owner said someone was mistaking his kindness for stupidity, and he removed all of the free items and installed vending machines.

Hello,
I'm just wondering what are the survival rates with someone who has suffered a massive heart attack. The doctors and nursing staff haven't commented on what specifically caused it.. They assume some sort of distress. He had his heart attack on Friday, August 1st, 2008.
They've also said that he's sustained some brain damage from either falling and hitting his head, or from the extended period of time that he went without oxygen. Which, according to the woman who called the ambulance was approximately 15 minutes or so. The doctor's first bit of news was basically, "He has very low brain activity." Which made my mother extremely hysterical and she was sobbing for hours. Even though the medical staff have told her that the sedatives that he's on will also lower the brain's general activity.
Now, I've read some places online that it can take up to a year to determine whether or not a patient will be in a vegetative-state or near-vegetative-state indefinitely. I'm not the power of attorney, although, the actual power of attorney, his sister, has requested that I manage all of this stuff for her. She says it's just far too stressful and she's too emotional to handle anything major at this time. So, all of the doctors and nurses have been calling me to obtain consent for every procedure that he has undergone in the past couple of days.
I just don't want to get my family's hopes up. I've always been a very realistic kind of person, and I know that someone who has had as unhealthy of a life as he, would have very slim chances of survival. He smoked, drank heavily, and ate pretty much nothing other than red meat and junk food. He's really skinny, but that's from a fairly recent addiction to Methamphetamines, which is labeled "Crank" on the streets.
I'm not exactly shocked nor sad, which none of my family can understand. I knew this was coming, and I'm being pressured by family to decide whether or not to pull the plug. But from my small grasp of medical knowledge.. It's just too soon to make such important decisions about a person's life. I understand that this is a very severe condition, and he's even lucky to have made it to the ICU.
I know I posted another question the other day regarding his Social Security information, but we have social workers dealing that now.
I must admit that the survival rate from massive heart attacks is low and if he were to make a recovery I doubt that without miracle surgery he'd last for long. So you have to make some pretty tough decisions as to what is needed and if it is going to be in your fathers best interest in the long run. Can't say I envy you and good luck in what you do.
I am compiling a survival guide for first year teachers at my middle school. Teachers, administrators, and school staff, what are some things you wish others could have told you to make your transition as a first year a teacher a little easier? Do you have nay suggestions or tips that first year teachers should follow? Your input is greatly appreciated.
There is also a great book out there called The Other Side Of The Desk: Tragedies in American Education that would give them insight into what to expect as a teacher. You can find out more at his website. www.dougwebb.webs.com.
some staff members care so much about Faith Community Hospital's survival that they refuse to serve patients unless they confirm insurance coverage first. Is this illegal? Where can I find a reference of this law if it is illegal? Thank you for your help!
Only in emergency situations
In an emergency, the hospital must treat first, and then get insurance information second

Lessons From Federal Audit Initiatives: A “Top 10” Survival Guide ...
By Michael Calahan
Federal auditors promise to assail providers through a variety of initiatives. Paradoxically, the recent annulment of consultation CPT codes by Medicare forces physicians to improve evaluation and management (E/M) reporting strategies. This drastic change leverages the more flexible and ubiquitous E/M codes for office and hospital inpatient visits by discounting the stringent consultation criteria. It also increases the impact of E/M services on practice revenue. Thus, to ensure accurate reimbursement and fewer improper payments E/M services will become a larger target for federal programs such as the Comprehensive Error Rate testing (CERT) and Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) initiatives.
