They say it doesnt really matter how good of a swimmer you are. I'm wondering how you got through it.
Don't drown! :)
Seriously, that's about it. The key, other than learning the basic techniques for staying afloat and breathing, is attitude.
If you just remain calm and do the things you need to do step by step, its not hard at all. The people who don't pass are those who let themselves bet panicked or tensed up. Most of the tests a person must pass for combat training regimans are tough--they're supposed to be. This is possibly the easist on the list--IF you stay calm.
Good luck!

Whats it like? Is it bad?
thanks for your answer. Is it hard to stay afloat with your boots and uniform on? how about going off the diving board?
thanks guy, one last question...do you automatically fail if your weapon gets wet?
Mine was off the coast of Coronado, Ca. They teamed me up with two non swimmer. We jumped feet first off the bow of the LARC Boat, with me being flanked by the two of them (one on each side). They were holding my belt and I told them that if either of them panicked when we hit the water, and if they tried to push me down to get themselves to the surface, I'd drown them. We jumped and sure enough, there was clawing, scratching, kicking and kneeing. I grabbed the guy by the ankles and jerked his sorry butt down. Got to the surface, caught my breath and let him surface as well. We formed a chorus line and laying on our backs, kicked our way the few miles back to land. All was good until we hit the surf... And by the way, the Pacific in the winter is REALLY cold.
if you are lost somewhere on Planet Earth with only the following items: a sharp #2 pencil, 32 oz. styrofoam cup full of water, and a pock of black pepper. Then how do you determine what hemisphere you are in
also what is this commonly known as
It's a strange question. I think the answer must be if you poke a hole in the bottom of the cup and look at the way the water swirls as it runs out you will be able to tell whether you are in the northern or southern hemisphere. Floating the pepper on the water might make it easier to see how the water flows.
Personally, if I was lost and really needed to know which hemisphere I was in I would wait until nightfall and then look to see whether or not I could see Ursa Major and the Pole Star. I would rather keep the water in case I needed to drink it later.

Does the Army have a mandatory combat water survival test?
Is this for Enlisted, Officers, or both?
if its Officers, is it part of ROTC or OCS?
Enlisted, depending on their MOS, do not have to do CWST. However, officers must complete it during their ROTC courses at Warrior Forge which takes place at Fort Lewis, Washington.
