What is the ceramic used in Survival water filters. Do you think a large scale version could be made?

Do they work with sea water

Large scale units are probably already in use.

Whats the best way to filter salt water and make it suitable for drinking?

I keep dreaming that I keep getting stranded on a desserted island, I am starting to aquire survival techniques.
Keep it primitive

One method of desalination is distillation. You can construct a solar still, or one that works over a fire. A solar still can be constructed by filling a large, flat container with salt water. Place a smaller container in the center with a rock in it to hold it still. Cover it with a thin sheet of plastic or whatever you have and place a rock in the center above the cup. If this is placed in direct sunlight, water should evaporate and condense on the plastic running down and dripping into the smaller container. For one that works over fire, all you need to do is create steam and condense that steam by using a piece of metal in the steam that allows the condensed water to run into another container.

Can you drink river water if you filter it and boil it if necessary?

With the economy in the state that it's in, for survival purpose, can this be done and how?

yes actually, it can. We learned about it in school. just put it in a pot and boil it to get rid of the germs.

Confused about the clean water crisis?

I saw this commercial for a charity and it said 1.1 billion people don't have access to clean water. What I don't understand is why simple purification methods aren't used. In survival handbooks, they always tell you how to filter water using rocks or cloth, about boiling it for purification, and about those purification tablets. These methods seem rather cheap and easy to use. Why aren't charities, or even impoverished villages themselves, using these methods to fix the crisis?

the answer is, they just do not have access to such luxuries, and couldn't afford them if they did.

if i had to guess, you just don't know how really rich, and well off, you are.
keep in mind, in many places around the world, people work all day, just for enough food to eat.

one source says that 25,000 people die from starvation every single day.
in their case, any water that's just wet is good water.

  • Bug Out Bag – Section 1.1 firearms: rife

The papoose weighs 3.3 pounds, my 795SS weighs 4.4

that weight saving is mostly due to the shorter barrel, and being weighed with 7 rounds instead of ten (smaller magazine etc).

I have no first hand experience, but i didn’t believe the removable barrel could be as accurate, thus i went with a drop forged, single piece rifle. the weight difference isn’t really much when you consider what you get, and there is nothing to break (less parts)

papoose is a fine gun though!

Great video. You are right about ammo weight. 50 rounds of 12 gauge weigh 5lbs. 1000 rounds of 22lr weigh 5lbs. 5.56 rounds? 100 rounds of 5.56 weigh 5 lbs. To carry so much ammo is foolish. A lot of people apparently carry tons of ammo and less food. I guess they are going to be looters before it is all over. I have a long term bug out bag that I am working to get the weight down below 40 lbs. It is a challenge “Good Job”
