survival??

so i'm writing a survival guide for traveling in the freezing yukon territory in canada. what could I include? I thought of warm clothes and matches, but what else would help up there? Thankks.. :)

How in depth do you want to go?

To start with clothes :

Layer up, dont wear an all in one arctic type suit, because if you start getting too hot, you cant take it off or you will freeze.

Better to wear a bunch of layers and remove or add an internal layer depending on your body temp.

You want your external layer to be waterproof because if your clothes get wet, it takes longer to dry in cold temps, also, it will mean starting a fire.

Cotton is warmest for your base layers, but when wet, it conducts heat from your body a hell of a lot faster than acrylic base layers.

If you plan on falling into any ice cold water you wan to consider that.

Dont forget gloves, a hat, face mask and shades or goggles to protect from snow blindness. Exposed skin can die within 10 or 15 mins of exposure in real cold temps.

Other stuff :

A knife, a gun (for bears and moose), snow shoes, map and compass, bag to put your gear in, roll mat, sleeping bag, full change of clothing, first aid kit, survival rations, small axe, cooking utensils, shelter.

Above all, you really need a knowledge of survival skills.

Ive spent a lot of time outdoors and I feel if I were dumped in the Yukon with nothing but the clothes on my back I would be able to survive.

Without a knowledge of things like how to turn a caribou into clothing, tools, food for weeks, string and basic shelter components, you will have to bring all these things with you.

A basic knowledge of survival skills and the environment you will be entering is the key to surviving in inhospitable landscapes in m opinion.

Hope this helps you out.

What do you need on a survival camping trip?

Me and my friends are doing a survival thing, going out in the woods for two nights to test our survival skills. We need to know the basic survival needs to bring with. We don't want to go back to the house for anything. We want it to seem like survival. Not a ton of items that are unnecessary.
Thanks to all.

This is backyard or nearby camping, right?

Put some 'emergency supplies' on the back porch or a shed- just in case. A change of clothes, some warm clothes and blankets, some matches or fire starting supplies, snack food, more water, etc.

Bring a few basics:
1. Dress and sleep warm and dry. Warm bag and/or blankets, a good sleeping pad (many layers of newspaper works nicely), a decent tent or tarp, etc.

2. Fire. Bring a lighter and practice making fires. When you have the basic skills down, learn to light one with other techniques- flint and steel, battery and steel wool, magnifying glass, etc.

3. Food and water basics. Bring about a gallon of water per person per day. (If your house is nearby, this is not a big deal). Learn to cook simple foods over a real fire- first with a fry pan and stuff to get the basics down, then in foil, then with no special utensils. Then, try boiling water to treat it, then learn to boil it in 'other things', like a hanging plastic bottle.

Use trips like this to get the basic skills built up, then start to learn about finding your own food- finding edible plants (BE CAREFUL!), fishing, hunting, etc. Learn to build shelters from stuff around you, making your own rope, etc.

Shows like Survivorman can show you some things to try- but skills like this should be practiced in safe places first.

How can we explain Christianity's survival taking into account the survival of the fittest?

Before you answer:

1) I know 2000 years is not much in the history of life, but it's a lot of time in the history of civilization. It's a huge part of it.

2) When I speak about survival I'm not refering only to the ammount of time. Survival doesn't imply only time, it imply also quantity of members and inffluence among other things.

Richard Dawkins and Susan Blackmore have presented answers on the question you ask. The last chapter of Dawkins's The Selfish Gene, published in the 1970s posits ideas, or memes as selfish genes that serve to propogate and reproduce themselves like biological organisms. He discusses different ideas being like viruses, including religion. From the meme's perpective, its only purpose is to survive by spreading and reproducing. Susan Blackmore has written on the subject, expanding upon it from biological perspective.

There are a number of answers why it has survived. It promotes faith and obedience over reason and non-conformance, which are the two attributes that would make it extinct.

What are the survival percentage rates for a woman with stage three c breast cancer?

She has had a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. She is currently taking the drug Femara. She is two years into the disease and has had no tumors but still has high tumor markers and uptake in the spine showing on pet-scans.So What do you think her survival rate is?

The 5-year survival rates for stage 3A and 3B are 67 & 54%. However, it sounds like she is a stage 4, which has a 5-year survival rate of 20%. You should know that it is not unusual for stage 4 breast cancer patients to survive 10 years or more. We are better able to manage this disease all the time.

What are the survival rates for someone having a double masectomy?

Our close family friend found out she has breast cancer a few weeks ago and is getting a double masectomy tomorrow (June 6). I know she probably be fine but there are always risks. Are the chances of survival good for someone having a double masectomy?
Thanks to everyone who replied back. To answer the one question, I'm not sure if she is getting reconstructive surgery. I just wanted know what the risks were during the operation and even after. We haven't heard from them yet today, but I'm hoping everything goes well! Thanks again everyone...you're answers really helped! Please check my other question about Limb Girdle and maybe you can answer it!

Stage and size of tumor play a big part in this. Also there are 3 main types of BC. That is important also. Another factor to consider is if the tumor is estrogen and HER 2/3 pos or neg.
One very important factor that is often overlooked is the attitude. It is very helpful to have a good attitude and a good support group. Mastectomies, and other treatments together do increase the survival rate. Today the survival rate is rising. I am a 7 yr. survivor, and wish her much luck.

  • Buy Cheap

  • Painkiller can boost breast cancer survival rates

The greatest protection comes from taking the drug two, three, four or five times a week, a study has found.

They cut the risk of dying by 71 percent and the risk of the cancer spreading by 60 percent, the Daily Mail reported on its website Wednesday.

Taking aspirin on six or seven days cut the death risk by 64 percent, but the risk of spreading fell only 43 percent.

The findings of the US study provide the most compelling evidence yet of the power of the cheap painkiller.

Previous research has suggested that aspirin can protect against bowel cancer, although results for other cancers, such as breast and prostate, were less clear-cut.

The latest dramatic results came from a 30-year project tracking the health of 238,000 nurses.
