something happened to their caretaker, and they had to find their way to safety on their own. At one point, they were trying to find a way across a raging river, and found a set of railroad tracks. One person was so excited that he ran along the tracks, not realizing that the tracks had collapsed, and fell to his death. Another, newer bridge was nearby. That scene is all I remember.
Seven in Darkness, perhaps?
This is day one of my adventure. In this video we talk about the wager that me and my friend Bucky made. We then drive up to the Adirondack ...
I am seriously considering walking into the wilderness and living my life peacefully. I would like to live off of the land, wildlife, lakes, streams and rivers. This is NOT a fly-by-night decision and I would welcome any suggestions or experiences that anyone may have had in this area. I have researched such things as must have survivalist essentials. Tent, sleeping bag, survivalist kits, rifles, fishing gear, survival books, food, water, clothing, etc., etc. What I am interested in reading about from readers is personal experiences or from people who would be interested in attempting the same lifestyle. I am planning this major step in my life sometime within the next three months. Experiences ? Suggestions ? Encouragement ? Interest in participating ? All ideas are welcome. Please, serious responses only. Thanks.
The way my life is going, I would love to follow you into the wild. I am miserable sitting in my office all day and dreaming of being outside. I have thought about taking some time for myself after I finish my masters degree, and maybe hiking the appalachian trail or something. I am tired of all the stress and deadlines, and would welcome the freedom of roaming the wilderness. I think it is a great idea, and I think you should go for it if you really want it.
By the way, where are you planning to go? I think Alaska would be an excellent place to attempt something like this.
I would like to know how to bulid a shelter, what food is best to eat, how tomake a fire and such..I don't cause if you tell me here or just give me a link to a site that could help me
Bring a buddy and you can make a Donner Burger.
Seriously, stay warm, dry, fed and hydrated. A fire would be ideal, but in its absense you will need a wind break. Under coniferous trees there can be a cone shaped shelter by removing the low hanging dead branches. If there is a lot of snow on the ground then the snow will aid in the wind block attribute and insulate the structure.
If you are camping then you should have prepared ahead by bringing a communication, extra food and water and a tent. If you are in your car, stay in your car unless it is in a dangerous spot. Set up a signal to indicate to passers by and would be rescuers that you are in the area.
If you start a fire make sure it is in a well ventilated area and not under a tree with snow/ice in the branches. You could suffer a limb collapse if some of the ice melts but not the other.

What was the name of that movie? The kid found a big tree, hollowed it out and slept inside. He made traps for hunting food and taught himself ways to survive all winter long in the forest. I don't remember how it ended...??
Sounds like "My Side of the Mountain (1969)". After being told that the family summer trip has been canceled, Sam, a young boy, runs from home to the mountains where he will have to struggle against the forces of nature. He uses a huge hollowed-out tree as a shelter, by the way. It's based on the novel of the same name by Jean Craighead George. *** spoiler *** spoiler *** spoiler *** At the end of the movie, Sam returns to his family. In the book, Sam's family moves to the mountains with him. *** spoiler *** spoiler *** spoiler ***

Surviving A Wilderness Emergency 5
This is the thirteenth post based upon educational sessions and syllabus material presented at the Wilderness Medical Society Annual Meeting & 25th Anniversary held in Snowmass, Colorado from July 25-30. It’s based upon an excellent presentation given by Peter Kummerfeldt, who is President and Chief Instructor for OutdoorSafe, Inc. of Colorado Springs, Colorado. In his presentation, Peter wisely made the point that the information provided was designed for educational use only and would not be a substitute for specific training or experience. When going into the outdoors it is the reader's responsibility...
