A friend of mine sustained a very severe head injury about two years ago and has never been the same since. Last night he got into a brawl and was knocked unconcious by the fighter. I heard that the blows from the fight weren't that serious. He got up and walked away from the fight, however, later he began puking up blood and others called an ambulance. He was flown out by helicopter to a critical care unit in Westchester County. He is currently under a medicated coma and is on life support. Whats the chance of surviving TWO head tramas?
Assuming that the damage is not compounded, there really isn't any codependence. Statistically, the odds of surviving any type of accident don't change based upon previous history. For instance, the odds of surviving a lightning bolt might be 50%. That does not meant that if you get hit again, you're automatically going to die. If you're all healed up and in the same condition when the second bolt hits, you're back to 50% (or maybe a little less...since you might be a little older, a little weaker, etc..). However, if the 2nd bolt struck you while you were recovering in the hospital and connected to a pace maker, it wouldn't be an independent event.
Part 1 of 5 shows how the approach of Planet X is already changing our world. Produced and hosted by Marshall Masters, a former CNN science ...
I know the uprising in imminent. With scientific cloning technology as it is today, it is only a matter of time before an experiment goes awry and velociraptors take over the earth. They know no fear, and they are after our flesh. So what are my chances of surviving this inevitable attack? How do I raptor-proof my home? Or is that even possible?
100% survival rate since they are an extinct species.
As far as raptor-proofing your home the best thing would be to just lock yourself in as clearly you have nothing better to do with your time than ask stupid pointless questions online. That way the outside world does not have to deal with that stupidity face to face.
I found out today that my 8 week old pomeranian has parvo. Luckily we caught it in the early stages, however she weighs less than 1lb, so I am concerned that her small size will decrease her chances of surviving. I knew something was wrong when she wouldn't eat or play yesterday, however this morning she was just as spunky as always and ate her full meal. What are the chances of her making it through this? Has anyone had a situation similar to this?
She has seen the vet and will be hospitalized there until she either recovers or dies.
I have saved a Yorkie at 11 1/2 weeks and just under a pound and a half so I know it is possible. He had one injection at 8 weeks so he did get a lighter case and never stopped eating completely. We had the Parvaid and Vibactra Plus (unnecessary with a prescription antibiotic) overnighted and started on the emergency tea recipe, Pedialyte (unnecessary with iv fluids) and liver immediately. The puppy (the parvo puppy) had just gone to his new home and her roommate's dog was diagnosed within that week of parvo so we knew she had been exposed by direct contact. Both dogs made it. Here is the a link to the "enclyclopedia of parvo" that contains information on what I have talked about. Click on parvo self help guide. Click on products for the Parvaid and Vibactra Plus (natural antibiotic). Even if you have her being treated at a vet's office the Parvaid will increase her chances and shorten the recovery time to half.. Many vets have now heard of the product and will administer it. They claim an 85% success rate and I believe it.

this home appraised at 118,000. If sold on the market is there a capitol gains tax or will each surviving child get 33 1/3% of the 118,000, there was already 210,000 in cash split 3 ways
The difference between the cost basis in the home and whatever it sells for is subject to capital gains taxes unless you qualify for the exclusion. You'd have to own and live in the home for 2 of the last 5 years as your principal residence to qualify for the exclusion.
The cost basis is the value of the home on the date of death of the previous owner(s). If that valuation was $118,000 and you sold it for that much there would be no gain and therefore no CG tax.
If there is any CG tax due, it is treated as a long term capital gain which is taxed at a lower rate. The rate is 15% unless your marginal rate is 15% or less. In that case it's 5%.
Each of the 3 sibilings would use 1/3 of the cost basis and 1/3 of the net proceeds (sales price less costs of the sale) from the sale to figure their individual CG tax if any is due.
The $210,000 in cash is not taxable to you at the Federal level though a couple of states still have inheritance taxes. Typically those are paid by the estate but you'll need to check with the executor of the estate to see what, if anything, was paid. That applies to the proportional shares of the home as well.
(The other response regarding "inheritance" taxes is incorrect; there is no inheritance tax at the federal level. The estate tax exclusion amount is $2 million, not 1.5 and estate taxes, if any, are paid by the estate, not by the heirs. And CG tax IS due if there is a gain on the sale.)
I have read that someone can't live more than 5 days without water. If that is true and the earthquake happened on the 12th how are people surviving? They are still today, 8 days later finding people in the rubble.
It's pretty bad there. I mean like there are no hospitals (the doctors all left) so they're probably dead or in really bad shape. Earthquakes are pretty bad so I guess most of them are lucky to survive the earthquake part of it.

Surviving the Loss of Your Cat
Having personally gone through it many painful times, I can fully understand the shock and grief when a beloved cat passes on. It's especially hard when we, their loving companions and caregivers, must make that painful decision to let them go. For weeks after, we have second-guess thoughts: Did I wait too long? Was my decision too hasty? Could he or she have recovered? My answer to that is usually that "although the decision was painful for you, it was the kindest and most loving decision you could have made for your cat."
Although you may be in the early stages of grief, and won't even consider the thought...
