I know the army does, right? Do the marines go through the same survival training as the army does?

SERE- Survival evasion resistance escape school- Not all Marines go to SERE school, it depends on their occupation specialty, such as MARSOC- they attend SERE school, jump school, dive school ect.

i've been wanting to take a training course in wilderness survival and first aid, but i cannot seem to find any organisation or anyone in singapore who can provide such training.

anybody in singapore know an organisation, or personally has extensive knowledge in the mentioned subjects?

not too sure about widerness survival, but you can try st john ambulance for the first aid training... go to the SJAA (Association), the website i have listed is rather simple, hence you may call them up to find out more. think they should be able to provide you with better info since they know better

you can also try singapore red cross. the website has more info and seem more updated. go to 'courses'...

to add something on wilderness survival courses, though I never taken part in these courses, probably you can try singapore outward bound website (http://www.obs.pa.gov.sg/) think you need to contact them for the info

no_amnesty_06 there's water in the desert, you just have to know how to get. The illegal immigrants don't have to live in a place that is that harsh. Their forefathers most likely didn't settle in an inhabitable place. It probably is 'habitable', but it's just they'd have to work to survive and they, obviously are not really strong enough to put that much effort into it. Not so strong after all.
hadenough- you understand what I'm saying. It doesn't take a lot of education to raise a few chickens, a goat, snare rabbits, go fishing, grow some corn, beans, tomatoes & other produce. Don't tell me they don't grow in a desert either. I've seen where some of those people come from and they have water; weeds grow higher than their heads, produce can too. Excuses are lame.

Mendi8a- I'm sure a big majority of Americans would love for them to enlighten us with their great survival abilities. All they have to do is prove it by going back to their homeland and surviving and then they could just rub it all in our faces, and tell us "I'm strong, I'm a survivor, I have tenacity!!"

They won't cut up a chicken in Mexico, or work in a garden in their own homeland, they come up here and freeload and get even fatter and lazier by abusing taxpaid ( by ME) services they are NOT entitled to!! I buy chicken locally and cut it up MYSELF!! I grow MY own produce, what's their problem? LAZINESS, WORTHLESSNESS, TAX SUCKERS!!

We could all use it. The Quakers do well without many things. No they don't all have farms.
Oprah showed how a few goats or chickens can start a life for some-or other livestock. Some had to get water from miles away for the day.
We can all do without many things, but not many want too.

what exactly do u do when you train for this

This course is SV-80A, Combat Survival Training(SERE). It teaches you the skills to survive and return with honor if you were to find yourself stranded in the wilderness. I am going to be vague about what is involved in the training because much of it is classifed and nobody on Yahoo answers needs to know details about it. Type in the course number in a google search and you will find plenty of info about it. All I will say is it is a great course that teaches you a lot of great skills that could someday save your life or the life of a friend. It is tough training, long hours and little food, but it will teach you to overcome food aversions and prove to your own mind that you can go days without food and still function. I went through this course in 2004 and remember it like yesterday. I have been to all the survival school the Air Force has, each has allowed me to learn a new skill-set that helps me both in my military life and my regular daily life at home.

...and yes, I ate many bugs during this course and was happy to have the little nourishment it gave me.
