A debate came up recently about wilderness survival. And I thought I would bring it here. See, a man decided to go into the wilderness for a year and survive. Using only what he could carry in a back pack. Among these supplies, would be notebooks and pencils to document his journey. After the year was up, he would write a book about the journey. The question for you is, what do you think about this? Where would you go to do this? And what would you bring? Can't wait to hear what you all put.
This depends so much on where you are.About the only things that would be useful anywhere would be a field guide to the area, a machete, and a sheet of aluminized mylar. The mylar can be used as a shelter or (shiny side down) to make a solar still. Generally useful items would be wire, a good jack-knife, twine, fish-hooks, a magnifying lens, a pot, and an assortment of plastic bags. The whole kit would be light and compact enough to allow for the adding of a few luxuries. However, so much would depend on whether you are in the polar regions, tropical rain forest, hot (or cold) desert, marshland ....

If you were going out into the wilderness for 2 weeks and you could only bring 6 things what should you bring to survive?
always should have with you in the wilderness..
a way to make fire is number one. a good fire steel
solid fixed blade knife that can be used for chopping, hammering.. a fallkniven f1 or a1 are great for the price
tarp for shelter
purification tablets but they expire, a pan/pot for boiling water is better long term
some paracord
fishing/sewing kit
first aid supplies
edible plant book is good to have
above all though youd need to bring your will to survive. and good bushcraft skills are better than any tool youcould have. your brain is 1# tool

A question was asked in the hunting section asking whether or not you would be able to survive in the wilderness with just your street clothes and a knife. Everybody said yes but I have my doubts about all the people who said yes. So to satisfy my curiosity I've asked this question to see if people really know what is accepted to be the top key to survival situations.
The question is not vague at all. There is one key factor to survival that every expert I've studied under and read about agrees on.

Attitude.
